DRAFT IN PROGRESS THREAD ... What's past is preamble

Yep. If the Braves legitimately thought more of Anderson than Puk, Groome, and Pint, then Anderson should fire his agent. There's no reason to take the Braves massively under slot offer of the Braves are that in love with you.

The fact they already had this done hours (if not longer) before the draft makes me believe it that much more. His agent knew the range he was likely going to be drafted in and it's the only reason to accept the offer ahead of time. The Braves wouldn't have drafted him #3 if he didn't agree to this deal.

The Braves are not dumb. My guess on how the negotiations went with his agent? 'Hey, we like Ian but we have other guys ahead of him. However, we're willing to take him so we can save some money. He's likely not going to go before pick __ if we don't take him, so we'll give you __ more than that if you'll agree to take it at 3.'

You can either agree to that deal or take the gamble on where you're taken after 3. I don't know why you guys think Anderson or his agent are privy to the Braves' thinking and can then use that info against them in negotiations. The Braves aren't going to show their hand.

#13 Taylor Trammel and #14 Dakota Hudson still available. Only 12 more picks left. Dont know if I want to see the **** storm when we pass on both of those players if they are available.

So in that scenario Ian isn't the BPA and the team is just cheap?

Both? I seriously do not think the Braves skipped over several names on their board just so they could go under slot. I never bought into the slot game much. I think they saw an opportunity to add a guy they rated very, very highly while also leaving open options later. That may still work out in our favor. We'll see.

If Anderson was taking only a little less than the slot I might agree with you. The fact we're getting a huge savings makes it very unlikely this wasn't a gambit. In fact, there were rumors of us trying just this weeks ago.

I think they're higher on Anderson than every other team but I still can't see any way he was ranked as their top pitcher. They saw a chance to draft a guy they were high on and to hopefully grab a higher rated player that had fallen at 40. This jumped Abderson's value to them up over other more talented players.

Problem is we're not seeing any epic falls. That makes the flexibility from Anderson less valuable making Anderson's pick much worse.
