DRAFT IN PROGRESS THREAD ... What's past is preamble

Last year we took seven straight college pitchers from round 4 to round 10. That actually made a certain amount of sense given that the yield on college pitchers taken in this part of the draft has been much better for us than for HS pitchers, HS hitters or college hitters.

Yeah... at this point it's pretty irrelevant as the success rate of players outside of the first few rounds just plummets. We've missed the opportunity to add any meaningful improvements to our offense in the system for this draft.

If you don't know what that stuff means then you have no business commenting about the modern day draft. So why even chirp about it? Why even chime in if all you have is ignorance?

They went cheap at 3 so they could go expensive at 40 and 44. Whether or not that strategy pays off is one thing, but the Braves weren't just "being cheap".

I don't care to know about the draft process. I saw someone else say they went cheap and I echoed that in agreement. If that wasn't the case so be it. There are more things in life to be concerned with then who the Braves draft.

Now Banks is gone. We're back to where we were a year ago where everyone says "don't worry, they'll get hitters." Maybe when we're going through the draft next season we can look back and actually see that happened.

We already have the best hitter available committed to sign with us in July. If he was in this draft he would have been a no doubt first pick overall.

He's 16 years old and won't play full season ball until 2018 at the earliest. Im glad we are investing in the international market, but that's not going to help anything with the big league team until at least 2020.

Until Maitan signs, I refuse to believe we have him completely locked up. I'm wary of the Cards making a last second snipe run at him out from under us. Stupid Cardinals.

He's basically 17 and he's advanced and polished for his age. If he truly is a phenom he could make it to the show 19-21

Also no guarantee Lewis or any other college bat will be ready by then either.

Another pitcher. Sigh. I'm reminded of Jeff Goldblum's line in Jurassic Park: "You ARE planning on having DINOSAURS on your dinosaur tour, right? Hello? [tap tap tap]"
