DRAFT IN PROGRESS THREAD ... What's past is preamble

And the MLB draft isnt like the NFL draft where players play right away. I would have liked some bats too but you still dont reach. Not like any bat we took this year would be ready Opening Day next year.

Some of yall act like we were a couple bats away from contending.

Complaints about the Braves' draft so far have nothing to do with the immediate needs of the major-league team.

Maybe, but I'm not sure how much Teheran is outperforming his peripherals. His BABIP against is definitely low, but he's also putting up the best K rate of his career with a good BB rate. I would expect his numbers to come back down some as his BABIP increases, but I'm not sure I buy into his FIP so far this year. He's also someone who has been able to maintain a good BABIP (though obviously not this good) and outpitch his FIP throughout his career.

I just hesitate to trade a guy pitching that well who is so cheap for a 21-year-old with 3 HR in A+. Again, I like Moncada and scouts obviously love him, but you still never know what happens with him. If we're trading Teheran I'd prefer to see what we can get as a major league bat.

The only worry I have with trading for a ML bat is that we're unlikely to get a ML player with the upside that a prospect like Moncada brings. My preference is for upside, given our lack of impact hitting talent in our system. I know this mostly comes down to a difference of opinion on how to build a roster, but I'd be psyched over landing Moncada.

I tend to doubt that's possible, and I would be pretty torn if we did it. I like Moncada a lot, obviously, but Teheran has pitched so well recently. Seems like it would be selling a bit low on him.

He's arguably the top prospect in baseball next year... that's about as high as you can sell him. I don't see how Teheran will ever be more valuable than the deadline or this off season if he stays healthy and keeps pitching well.

JUCO run.

So I guess there won't be any late, high-upside, might-not-sign picks?

I wanted a bat at 3, but getting the three pitchers they did if they sign is a pretty nice haul.

I think it was 50 that posted about Perfect Game saying the Braves originally wanted to float Anderson to 40.

The Braves were connected to Lewis and Ray at 3 to the very end.

There are other things but I'm pretty confident they wanted a hitter at 40.

Sounds like we will try to go overslot on Rowland and Anthony... Rowland had some real helium coming into the draft and has a big arm. May be a reliever, but has the chance to be an elite reliever/closer potential.
