DRAFT IN PROGRESS THREAD ... What's past is preamble

Do you think McKay profiles better with the bat or pitching going forward? Me personally I think he move to the field and continue on with his bat than pitching.

When the Braves starting trading all of their great young taken... we all asked "when are they gonna get some hitters?"

Before the 2015 draft, many of us assumed we would draft some hitters... and we took pitching

Before this draft - most of us assumed we would draft some hitters, and we took pitching

Until I see something else that contradicts that the FO's plan is to win 1-0 for the next 10 years, I'll stop getting my hopes up that we will acquire some hitters

I'm sure that the Braves front office is aware that there are at least two aspects to the game of baseball.

You created that account just to set up this joke, didn't you?

jpx wants me (him) to delete my account. Despicable. He is a miserable person.

My account is very good. It is the best account. I am very successful at drafting business contracts.

in the 2015 draft... the Braves took 12 of the first 14 players taken as pitchers

This year, with the #3 pick, the Braves took 7 of the first 8 picks as pitchers.

When the Braves had major assets to trade, they mostly traded for pitchers

So I see no reason why anyone would think the Braves will not take pitching next year... And I will disagree with that strategy once again... and the usual suspects will be defending per usual

My problem with your statement wasn't the assertion they would taken pitching. That's possible and they do have a track record for doing that as you mentioned. My gripe was with the nice little dig on "under slot, signable" portion.

Disagreeing with a proven philosophy? This is how the Braves that won at an unprecedented rate was built. Exactly why should this philosophy be abandoned? Also, contrary to popular opinion, the Braves did draft hitters. They took hitters when the hitter represented better upside than the pitchers that were available.

Over the past two years, the Braves have had 9 draft picks in the first two rounds. They have taken 6 pitchers, 2 catchers, and a 3B. As John Coppolella says, there is an inelastic demand for pitching.

Good article on 16th round pick and likely 3B prospect Josh Anthony. He and Rome LF Justin Ellison were teammates at Western Oklahoma State. This is the same school that produced Andrelton Simmons as well.

The Braves have always done well with JUCO prospects. Prior to MLB changing the rule for draft and follows, the Braves scouting department was the preeminent scouting department when it came to finding talent and stashing it for a year in a JUCO.

Nick Shumpert is another JUCO guy they drafted that I've heard will probably sign. He's a stocky build, athletic 2B prospect with big power in his bat.

The Braves recent track record at developing pitchers has been abysmal.

They've been much better with hitters.

Unless you're planning on getting 3 hall of famers again, I'm not sure I'd call riding Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz a "proven philosophy"
