Drew Waters

Both vaccines and Drew Waters' future shouldn't be controversial: one's an easy and helpful shot, the other's a decided long-shot who probably won't be helpful.

For a second there I thought I clicked on The Locker Room. #mems

I really, really hope Waters becomes something. I'm extremely not optimistic that he will. That said, it wouldn't surprise me to see Harris in the Atlanta outfield this year. Given the bulk he seems to have put on, I'd love to see him blow up for a couple of months early.

I'll tell you why, but the actual answer won't change your mind because you aren't actually interested in the real answer. But I'll go ahead and waste 2 minutes of my life anyways...

The strength of your immune response depends on the viral load in your system. So if you get a few COVID viruses from touching your sister's spoon and then touching your eye, you're likely to get a milder infection than if you made out with your sister for an hour.

Since nobody can control the viral load of their natural infection, there's no way to tell how strong your immune response is without getting tests that I'm quite confident the trumpkins will refuse to subject themselves to.

Conversely, a vaccine dose is specifically sized to produce a specific immune response. So they can confidently say vaccinated folks have antibodies within a certain range, while they have no idea what your antibody count is after you claim you had an infection.

But like I said, you aren't actually interested in the real reason, only the talking points that support your existing views, so this explanation won't even factor into your point of view.

We still don't know how long natural immunity lasts. But to be fair, we don't know how long the vaccine's effects last either.

I have a friend who ended up on the brink of death from Covid recently...unvaccinated, of course. He was reliant upon his natural immunity from having Covid in April of 2020. This is a healthy, highly active 62 year old...not some fat mainlining donut glaze while gorging on Cheetos in between breaths from his iron lung.

SPORTS TAKE: I hope Waters kept the truck he got from Coppy.

I got the 1st dose of phizer. I'm hardly anti-vaccine. After I got the 1st dose, I got Covid before I could get the 2nd dose. Bc I caught Covid, I see no reason to get the 2nd dose. My job doesn't require it, and now places I wanna visit are dropping the mandate, so I won't get it. Again, I'm not anti-vaccine. I'm anti- make people get it.

Glad you did OK with the Pfizer, even if it was just the 1st dose. I would certainly recommend the Moderna for anyone who is considering getting the vaccine. I try to avoid these types of discussions because too people are too rabid about Covid and it's usually based more on politics than on science and the #1 science guy on the whole thing seemed to have quite a few holes in his expertise as well.

As for natural immunity and/or forcing people to get the vaccine, if it weren't for the fairly good chances that a person with Covid, vaccinated or not, can infect another person I'd be totally 110% fine with not forcing anyone to get it. Just my 2 cents worth though, having had it I feel like I have an insight into it that many (but not all) of us have on the subject.

Waters will likely see Atl this year unless he just tanks in Gwinnett. His defense alone will make him worthy of an OF spot at some point.

Will his approach keep him from being a starter at some point? Maybe. I still out hope he can be a Carlos Gomez type of player (but without the trait of having a punchable face).

Not being a star and not being helpful are different things. Waters chances of being a star are remote. He needs an unlikely breakthrough like Riley had.

Waters chances of being a useful piece are much higher. ZiPS projects him as almost a 1 WAR player this year.

He has a good chance of being helpful, just a bad chance of being a star.

I’m surprised by that. They have Rosario as about a 1 WAR player. I don’t view the two as comparable today.

Part of that is the fact that Waters should at least provide very good defense and base running. I know Pache gets all the love for his amazing defense (rightfully so), but Waters is a good defensive CFer too. He's very athletic with a cannon for an arm. He just doesn't have the natural instincts that Pache has.

Waters doesn't have to hit much to be a useful player. But to be a consistent starter for us, he'll need to either cut down the K's, or increase his power output considerably. Ideally he does both and we end up with an all-star CFer. But realistically, I'd settle for 1-2 WAR CFer through his cheap years.

What in the *ell does that have to do with anything? I'm 100% against "making" anyone get it, but I've had both shots AND the first booster.

I'm concerned about my personal health and the health of those close to me - if they decide two boosters every year are helpful, you treat it just like a flu shot. No one HAS TO dictate common sense to me - it completely baffles me why people would play Russian Roulette with their health just to make the point that "by God nobody tells me what to do!". What doesn't baffle me is when I sit on the deck at a bar here in the south and hear people whine that they're worried the government is somehow getting tracking devices into their arms while they're surfing Facebook on their *amn smartphone. A pertinent Forrest Gump quote comes to mind every time that happens.

Cool story. Let others decide what's best for them also

I'm all about you deciding what's best for you. Just don't whine when a business owner puts a sign on their door stating that you're not allowed inside if you haven't been vaccinated.

The government doesn't make that choice for everyone - if the owner doesn't want their friends/families/employees exposed they tend to do that regardless of whether there's any mandate. I applaud anyone for making their own choice - just stay the *ell away from me if you haven't been vaccinated. Choices come with consequences.

Seems like you don't trust that your vaccine protects you.

Didn't you just say you were at a bar with unvaccinated people? Jeez... you better get the hell out of there before you die

Russian Roulette with your life?

For a virus that has a .001% death rate for healthy people under 50?

Yikes
