Economics Thread

As opposed to MAGA “analysis” of starting with a preferred conclusion and backfilling with an illogic ideology, disregarding all established evidence because reasons, and offering no counter evidence to support its claims.

Fauci was expert but did bad job during covid therefore me believe no expert!

Smart.
Let me know when we see the huge tax on consumers you and the health care experts foretold.

But yes - trying to compare available options between America and Argentina is well just silly.

Meanwhile GDP is up so at least something good is happening. I’ll look forward to your hot takes in 26 for sure.

Guess we’ll have to wait for MAGA and the left (redundant) to Peron our economy into the shitter before we can elect a pro market leader.

Yes redundancies like slashing federal workers. Redundancies like slashing regulations to promote growth.

Ls are such clowns. It’s fun

Redundancies like believing in the wisdom of a select few to intervene in a system where billions of people are making trillions of decisions and having the arrogance/stupidity to think they can guide it to a better outcome.

Hey man - we have our experiment now. When the economy is roaring in 26 I’ll look forward to your explanation as to how maybe it would have been even better without maga policies.

We had our experiment last time around, the experiment failed, and I was told we had to discard the results because COVID and China.

I look forward to the next excuse - I mean globalist bioweapon.

“Oh imagine thinking there wasn’t a global conspiracy to stop Trump from making America great. Silly L’s”

Yeah the economy was terrible in 19.

Impossible to take someone seriously that didn’t think the 2019 economy was incredible.

Where are the massive price increases guys?

You can’t at least admit your expectations have fallen short? No, you can’t admit this basic reality.

Yeah, that definitely sounds like "socialism, just wrapped in right wing cultural tinges, so Trump/MAGA love it."

Love your enthusiasm, and I personally do side this way, but as a natural Debbie Downer, unless AI busts soon, my personal vibe at this point is that MAGA gets everything that they want, a decade plus of total right wing dominance in everything.

You just casually ignoring 2 times XBox Price increased this year?

I've had my eye for a bit on the campchef woodwind pro. It was hovering around 1500, I was hoping to wait out for a sale to get it around 1200-1300. instead they had a price hike to 2000.
I just bought a case of whipped cream nitrogen carts for the business, because of massive price hikes. Last year I got 4 boxes of 24 for 9.94. To not get hosed on pricing I got 25 for 9.99, now a case is 16.49 (was 13.49 earlier this year, was 12.99 last year) I don't love the liability aspect of having that many nitrogen carts on hand as some shithead could steal it to do whipits. But 16.49 or 68.7 cents per cart moves whipped cream to essentially a loss. Not that I expect you to understand.

We pulled the trigger on buying a berkel bread slicer, for those who don't know Berkel is like premium in the slicer industry. Spent about 8400 on it. Now they're oging to have a price increase of 2-5% in November, which isn't unreasonable. but they had a price increase last year. ANd hadn't had one in a few years before that.

Our waffle baker inserts, currently are 82.99 for a set, we have 4 waffle bakers, so every time we replace the waffle grids it costs 331.96. Which we need to do twice a year minimum (probably shoudl do it more often btu that's a crazy expense) Last year those same inserts were 60 bucks. Meaning that we went from likea 500 per year cost to 664.

Last december I bought 3 rolls of bubble wrap for 14.49 each, same exact product now is 22.49.

Last year thermal paper case cost me for just buying 1, 52.99. Now I need to buy multiple to get a decent deal on it (55) which isn't optimal because that requires me using storage space for something I don't need all the time.

I wish I lived in the delusional fairy tale world you live in where I can pretend things are OK. I just bought ground beef, paid 5 bucks a pound for it (not on sale, just regular price in "family pack" so still 50 cents cheaper thana pound) that used to be what I paid for grass fed beef. THat's now like 9 bucks for shitty open nature (Albertson's brand) grass fed beef.

”I never said there wouldn’t be price increases, especially on luxury goods like hammers and bread slicers. You have to crack a few eggs to defeat the CCP. I can’t wait for all the healthcare experts to be wrong in 2026”

I just did a quick check on a Walmart+ order.

December 29th 2024 = cost was $44.44

clicked re-order all

Today's price = $59.72

34% increase in 9 months

I’m excited to see the size of the rescue package our farmers will be given due to trade war blowback.

One thing is for certain, the lobbyists who secured that bailout will be having a nice Christmas this year.

I’m sure if we went line by line we would fine a portion for tariffs but others different macro issues.

This is very fair. And btw, this goes both ways. There are elements of the economy that are going very well that are due to good Trump policy not related to tariffs.
