Economics Thread

So your policy is inflation.

And that’s fine! Inflation disproportionately affects the poor and middle class, but as long they are cool to foot the bill, then why not.

You’re ignoring the concept of price elasticity. If demand drops because of price increase then price drops. More of the “work” that doesn’t get included in pieces from the tax foundation. This doesn’t happen overnight either. These things need to play out over years.

Is demand dropping good or bad for small businesses and manufacturing companies?

Correct - looks like somebody took Econ in undergrad ;)

Higher prices leads to less demand. Consumers buy things because it benefits them. Higher prices mean consumers have less things that benefit them. These women should be commended for not wearing lipstick to punish the CCP.

I have almost 200 college credits with a degree in Math and a few credits short of accounting. I got over a 90 on all four parts of the cpa. I know a few things. Moreso than other fake experts on this forum (not you).

As demand decreases retailers will refuse to pay the same prices from suppliers or purchase the product altogether which results in lower costs and then less money in the CCPs pocket. And again, this needs to play out over years.

I’m glad we will have destroyed the slave labor CCP manufacturers so that we can pay the robots in our US plants an honest living wage.

Robots are just going to replace all the work illegals do after they’ve deported. Then the rest of us Americans can make more money.

Gurl - robots are replacing me and you too. Its likely in my lifetime AI will perform a surgery on me.

Now if you want to have an interesting discussion on how we navigate this AI transition, I’m all ears for what the populists have to say because I’m much more concerned about that.

They will replace everything except people who type excel formulas

Robots willl not be able to complete complex thought exercises for decades. Physical tasks are certainly right around the corner.

People think AI that we have now is actually real AI. It’s just nested logic that needs to be continually updated via machine learning. I would wager we aren’t going to get to true AI in our working lifetimes.

Anything that benefits the ccp completely answers pros and cons. But I guess you’re cool with giving them hundreds of billions of dollars?

The tariffs needs to be at a level where companies source their products from different locations. Also to compensate for the tariffs Chinese companies reduced their prices (consulted for a cosmetic company in late 2019). That was the CCPs response to keep the volume the same but less market value was coming back to China. That doesn’t work with stronger tariffs.

While I disagree, I’ll at least give you credit for an answer. Hell of a lot more than we’ll get from Trump.

This is where you guys get absurd. Trump is selling the concept of tariffs to the public and the public in general is not all that bright so he adjusts the message so it doesn’t get lost on people and they turn off. I have a strong feeling that Trump understands a lot more of the ins and outs then you guys give him credit for.

We’re all for “families” now—and that’s the justification for robbing the paychecks of productive childless taxpayers and rerouting their earnings to nonworking parents. This bill would further discourage work, leaving more parents and children dependent on government largess. It’s of a piece with the Republican lurch toward bills that micromanage industrial policy or penalize the free market. Today’s MAGA populism amounts to little more than warmed-over big-government Rockefeller Republicanism.

Childless people enjoy quite a few externalities associated with population growth. If the breeding part of the population could be compensated for those externalities, maybe we can talk about cutting taxes for childless taxpayers.

Holding a position that we shouldn’t value families is about the dumbest position someone could take. Just more of the same selfishness that permeates through all aspects of modern American life.

Libertarians going to libertarian though.
