Economics Thread

so in fact 75% of the workforce is tethered to 8 hour days 5 days a week?
Senator Sanders wants (as in child labor laws) a standard.
A ceiling and a floor of what is and isn't acceptable

Personally I think it a conversation worth having
Long overdue and Senator Sanders should be congratulated on pushing it forward.
But, that wasnt my point

What’s not noted here is suppliers lowering prices from pre tariff implementation to keep demand consistent. Oh well.

It’s possible that some foreign manufacturers lowered their prices to stay competitive in the US market. But several studies have suggested that US companies and consumers are bearing the brunt of the tariff cost.

Actually it was! But they glance over it by vague references to their “studies”. Similar to “studies” on mask effectiveness. Trust the experts!

Less money going to the ccp while beginning the process of reconfiguring the supply chain.

It didn’t work after a year or two! That means it doesn’t work!!!

We have hundreds of years of economic data …the effect of a tariff isn’t some novel phenomenon

Pretending that studies from pre interconnected complex economic systems that exist today mean anything is well….amusing.

But hey - you continue thinking that analyzing a period which included the ccp virus lockdowns mean something.

IMO this is the major benefit, and it isn't short term.

This is where most of our useful products need to be made so that we aren't groveling to a communist country with zero financial stability for our necessary goods.

Its clear to anyone that isn't handicapped by their dogma. But the only thing that matters to people are 'efficient' systems as can be evaulated with a formula.

you say things with such certainty, but rarely are even to back it up with evidence

tariffs have been around for hundreds of years. Is all that data invalid and we can only look at post covid, which of course we haven't had enough time to prove it out?

socialists are always certain of their future success... all the others who tried it before didn't do real socialism

You trust your 'studies' that show the taxpayer is paying it all despite a qualification that 'Suppliers may be lowering their prices'. Only one small sector of the economy but I can tell you from first hand EXPERIENCE (something you don't have in this area) that suppliers were slashing prices to keep competitive. So in reality all thats happening is that less money is going tinto the CCP's pockets and while some Americans end up paying overall more its not the % that is being pushed by the TAX FEDERATION!!!

Imports from China are at record highs

There are lots of studies looking at price changes in various products in the Consumer Price Index, post and pre-tariff. The consumer took it on the chin. Plus thangs like steel and washer-dryers are hardly strategic products that would give the CCP any sort of leverage over us. We can't be using that to justify tariffs on everything. Some strategically important items sure. But there aren't that many of those.

I wish we had a candidate that proposed cutting 10% out of all government spending. Now sure our country cares enough about their grand kids and great grand kids though to actually vote for it

Would those 10% spending cuts include programs that help poor families with children. You did say ALL. Just wanted a clarification.
