That's part of why their per capita GDP is not as high as ours.

Openness, whether it be to trade or ideas, is one of the most important determinants of economic growth. Countries that are open are richer. It is a well-researched thang.

It is very generous of you and Trump to be so concerned with trying to help other countries catch up to us. Commendable even.

There is no intention of having a trade war to hurt both countries with Canada/Mexico - Its been very clear from the beginning. But carrot/stick methods have to be used to change behavior and specifically to stop getting closer and closer with the CCP.

Asked if there would be any other carve-outs to come, Leavitt said Trump is “open to hearing about additional exemptions.”

I always associated TDS with someone who bought into delusions like RUSSIA!

It's clear to me now that it's just anyone who disagrees with Trump.

I will admit I am completely confused what the strategy is... if it's to massively disrupt the us economy and hurt Americans business and consumers in order to get a few more border agents at the Canadian border... I find it to be frankly retarded

in the meantime, you haven't cleared up why I suffer TDS bc I disagree with massively disrupting our economy, our businesses, and our people, to get a few more agents at the Canadian border... oh, and were gonna make a bunch of exceptions for people who ask nicely... and, if Tradau calls me, ill go ahead and delay them again for another month.

Oh no - Short term disruptions to an already ****ed up economy with the end result being a healthier one in the future.

but what is the ****ing point of the "short term disruption"... what are we gonna gain here? bc I can tell you that a smart opponent would be able to capitalize on this pretty easily

if trump thinks the tariffs are great. then ****ing do them. let the market crash. let the economy suffer. and just reassure us all it will produce a golden age when we get those Canadian border agents

Mexico and Canadas governemtn will change behavior on key areas of security which is the very basic ask.

In the next 50 years the goal will be to make North America the manufacturing HUB of the world.
