Part of the problem is hwo do you land the plane on this program? No one wants to deal with the issue they want to punt it.
The crazy thing to me is that the Dems should probably be the ones to put it to bed, but they don’t realize that. Want to get back the young vote? Stop taking from their paychecks to give it to a program that is giving to the people that they perceive as getting them into this mess. Want to win back some fiscally conservative folks that don’t actually care if trans people are around or other social issues? Pull the plug on a massive government program. Want to get rid of the talking points on fraud and waste in Social Security? Kill it all right now and call the bluff. The sad part is there are plenty of potential ways to land the plane, but to chop’s point, it’s politically expedient for both parties to champion the status quo and pretend the other party isn’t doing the exact same thing.
I don’t disagree. This is a program that takes from the relatively poor and gives to the relatively rich. If you want to win a battle in the class war, this front would be a hell of a lot more impactful than something like cancelling student loans. The crazy thing to me is that the Dems should probably be the ones to put it to bed, but they don’t realize that. Yep. And less growth as businesses cut expenses, capex, and hiring
But we’ve had this added revenue for months and we’ve not decreased the deficit. And if American businesses are absorbing the majority of these tariffs right now at the expense of their profits, are we also potentially going to see less tax revenue than forecasted?
We shouldn't be happy til everything costs more for everyoneI was on board with tariffs and losing service industry jobs until I saw that boutique Australian quilting patterns were impacted. Won’t someone think of the children? I hope the Erickson family is able to recover from this, and that the Australian business owner (who writes just like the customer service reps from Chinese sellers on Amazon) is okay.
I freaking love sunflower seeds. I like to take a bag to Rome games and just fill one of their soda cups with the shells. If you told me the sunflower seed supply would be reduced for a while, I would be sad. If you told me it would be reduced because those seeds will be used to increase future crops, I would suck it up for a while for a better, more sunflower-seedy future. We shouldn't be happy til everything costs more for everyone
If there were any data or evidence to suggest tarrifs create a better outcome for us, id be receptive.I freaking love sunflower seeds. Kinda early no?If there were any data or evidence to suggest tarrifs create a better outcome for us, id be receptive.
To date, I've seen none.
All I’ve see is wishcasting and goalpost moving. And the president and his mouthpieces showing their ignorance each time they talk about this issue. If there were any data or evidence to suggest tarrifs create a better outcome for us, id be receptive.

If this was the first time this was ever tried, then maybe, but this idea has been around as long as there have been nations and markets to trade. Don’t buy into the thethe theory that any data observed before March 2020 is somehow invalidated because he wishes it to be so.Kinda early no?
