Economics Thread

You'd think with all these exploding prices the health care experts continue to state would stop consumer spending.

Hmm.....
I know his name is Zero Hedge, but it’s actively insane how this account aggregates such wildly different and conflicting definitive statements. This same account often spits out economic data that suggest the thing he’s claiming here is obviously not happening.

America First… unless one of the countries you’re ideologically aligned with needs help.

And before anybody points out the obvious, I am not actually against this decision. Just finding it hard to square with the rest of our recent foreign policy directives.

I absolutely think we should support governments who are actively against leftists and communists.

CCP has their puppet in Brazil already.

He presents all accounting data - But he is clearly on the side that thinks the current crop of health care experts have no clue what htey are talking about and the results thus far have proven that to be true.

I'm still waiting to see all these drastic price increases that you claimed we would see by now.

I think he sold his account years ago to a Trumper.

Regardless, we have posted dozens of examples of higher prices resulting from tarrifs. You've tended to either dismiss it away as luxury, or admit that we have to break a few eggs to get to where we need to be

Inflation is still running 3%, which would have been considered astronomical 5 years ago. And thats 3% on top of the 25% that got Biden kicked out of office

And I know youre not naive enough to take the CPI reported number at face value

But inflation was there before 'liberation day' and after so not sure how we can assign tariffs to that as the primary driver now.

Its possible he sold his account - no way of me knowing that.

Still doesn't change the fact the health care experts are looking more wrong than right at this time.

Propping up our preferred South American governments for geopolitical considerations against a Communist adversary has gone so well for us this past century, why stop now right?

The CCP being in our backdoor is bad news. They are worlds more advanced then the fake USSR.

We should 100% support free societies like Milei is building.

Unless that free society cannot economically support its aims. I’m all for providing aid to help the people of Argentina in a time of crisis just as I’m in favor of feeding kids in Africa, but we should make sure we’re not just getting caught in a new endless cycle just because they value free and open trade, a thing we barely even support these days.

Come on now - don’t liken Argentina to Africa. It’s not anywhere close.

There are actual global strategic benefits to supporting Argentina. There is nothing beneficial to support Africa. Regardless of how much we dump there it will always be a shithole.

Argentina actually has a great history but was destroyed by terrible policies.

Tell that to any industry dependent on rare earth metals.

We don’t support developing nations to protect the governing bodies, we do it to maintain access to their things.

We can do that in places they aren’t sustained shitholes.

Congratulations to China for their massive supply and cost advantage on such resources then. For someone so concerned by the looming threat of the CCP, you sure are willing to give them a lot of free wins on the global stage.

China is free to stupidly spend their money feeding and preparing Africa.

But in reality Africans are already ready to boot China.

Terrible policies under Peron. Would be a shame if today’s leaders of countries with great histories pursued Peronist policies…
Here you go again thinking Argentina is exactly like the USA therefore the same rules apply universally across.

More health care expert kind of analysis.

As opposed to MAGA “analysis” of starting with a preferred conclusion and backfilling with an illogic ideology, disregarding all established evidence because reasons, and offering no counter evidence to support its claims.

Fauci was expert but did bad job during covid therefore me believe no expert!

Smart.
