Extension Talks With Swanson Reportedly Underway

The rush to make Strider a bullpen arm is silly when he’s been an elite starter whose pitched deep into games with no worrying splits the 2nd/3rd time through the order.

Adios then.

Sign Aldemys Diaz for 2 years/$16 million plus an option for a third, move Grissom to LF, let Rosario and Ozuna platoon at DH if you can't do anything with Ozuna.

Sign Rodon for 3 years/$90 million. Go to a 6-man rotation with Strider moving to the pen.

Acuna, Harris, Riley, Olson, d'Arnaud/Contreras, Ozzie, Grissom, Rosario/Ozuna, Diaz

Fried, Morton, Rodon, Wright, Soroka, Anderson/Muller/Elder/Shuster/Tarnok

Iglesias, Minter, Strider. Lee, McHugh, Matzek, Yates

Lol at not having Strider in the rotation.

Strider can be an elite starter. Why move him To the pen? Top of rotation starter is the rarest asset in the game.

Because he can also be an elite (and potentially even better) Closer for $15 million less than Jansen is making. Enscheff has rightly pointed out the legitimate concerns about Strider being able to remain a starter when he loses a tick off the fastball, and the quickest way to make that happen is to keep letting Snitker manage his workload every five days - that fastball will remain elite if he's used in short spurts and handled wisely.

2/$16 million for Diaz and 3/$90 million for Rodon not only makes the roster MUCH deeper than paying Dansby 6/$150, it also keeps you from having another $40 million tied up in someone playing deep into his 30s. Diaz would be 34 if his option wasn't picked up. Rodon would be 33 at the end of his deal and would represent your veteran SP on a short-term deal to replace Morton (whether he walks away this winter or next winter).

Player A - .268/.322/.446, .327 wOBA
Player B - .256/.323/.416, .316 wOBA

Legitimate question for those all-in on a Swanson extension...without looking, which one of those guys is Dansby and which one is Diaz???

Yeah I mentioned strider as a possible Hader role in the playoffs if Soroka could start. That way you spread his 7 innings over 2-3 games versus 1. But no way I want that going forward. He needs to be a starter next year.

Is 6/150 being reported?

AA doesn’t let things out we all know that so if this is coming out it has to be Close to get back at AA for the FF stuff. Dansby I think wants to be here but his price tag may be to high and they are leaking this to save face in case he walks. I bet AA is pissed.

Close throwing this crap out there probably makes a deal less likely. He’s really looking pretty stupid right now. Got FF less real money on his 2nd choice of teams. Now this with Swanson

It just really feels like if an extension was going to happen it would have already. I could be wrong. But this just feels like the agent attempting to stir things up.

Guys. Strider is a starting pitcher until he fails or blows his arm out. Any discussions that involve Moving him to the bullpen aside from easing his innings at this year end is a non starter now.

Strider's way too valuable to move to the bullpen. You can find bullpen pieces off the scrap heap, finding players like Strider off the scrap heap, well good luck with that. Regarding Dansby, i think both sides would want him to stay. Just gotta find common ground on a reasonable number that fits both sides.

That’s not agent mischief. Dansby is an adult

True, but that being almost an exact quote of what Freddie said suggests that they discussed how the question would be answered should it be asked.

Saying all the right things... so to speak.

Dansby probably wants to stay, thats no bull****. But this is probably his only time to cash in, so cant really blame him for chasing the bag as the cool kids say. Hope we keep him but if not, best of luck to him.

I'm not real educated on some of this but I am pretty sure this is as civ a post as civ can post.

Then at the minimum Dansby is a willing co-conspirator. It’s not Close getting back at AA as some in this thread have suggested.

I think it can be as simple as Dansby and the Braves are discussing a contract extension.
