Here we go again
Hard to argue. Just not working anymoreObviously these regional networks are a trash investment. They keep failing
My concern with it failing is the revenue certainty that would be lost that a team like the Braves have come to expect year after year. It seems like the teams who got booted from these regional networks over the past few years, and had MLB take over their streaming, are worse off. While I’ve heard of DAZN, I don’t much of anything about them, so I don’t know if this would be a good partnership for the FanDuel channels, aside from keeping them on the air. But this is the last gasp for these channels. No sale, no FanDuel channel this season to watch our Braves.
While they are in advanced talks for the sale, that obviously doesn’t mean that it’s 100% a deal will happen. Since I don’t know much about them, I don’t know what DAZN would do if they bought the channels.
In some way, I kind of hope the sale doesn’t happen and they shut down. It’s clear the traditional RSN model doesn’t work anymore. Now, if they do shut down, what happens then? There’s likely to be a streaming option, which MLB wants to do anyway. I do wonder if the Braves would possibly think about buying the channel and be able to broadcast content of their choosing. Maybe in a partnership with the Hawks or something. The southeast region is big enough to have something like that. Just a thought.
But the fact we’re talking about this so soon after the company emerged from bankruptcy is not a good thing for them.
