Fangraphs Top 100 Prospects

Are any of the lost prospects in that list of 45 FV guys?

Yunior Severino made the list of middle infielders. That's it.

All that cheating...for what? I don't know what's worse, that they cheated like that, that they were so stupidly brazen they got caught, or that they were so incompetent they assumed all that risk for little reward.

Dang. Maitan fell hard. And yeah that whole situations reeks of incompetence at all levels.

It's like they kidnapped a kid from a poor family, ransomed the kid for $11, and then bragged about it on the sidewalk in front of a police station.

Really weird that there isn’t a mention of Weigl or Allard in that follow up post from FG. This isn’t the same as stating that I disagree with their assessment. I am inclined to believe the current consensus that Allard is just a guy.

What I don’t buy is that Allard’s stuff backed up that much this year to fall from a consensus top 30 guy to off everybody’s list considering his good performance this year, which makes me question what scouting reports these gurus were going off the year before where everybody seemed universally high on the guy.

I think the cold reality is that there are really only fifteen or so can’t miss prospects that all the prospect gurus get right and the rest of the top 100 is a collection of players gurus put on the list to minimize fan outcry, which is how you arrive with players like Allard being a consensus top guy one year and off everybody’s list the next. It’s that or everybody in the prospecting industry talk to the same scouts and front office people and the ordering is a simple differentiation strategy.

Allard is a FV 50 that they ranked in the 101-137 range.

He is still a good prospect. They just agree with those of us who think guys like Wright, Gohara and Soroka are clearly a notch or two above him.

Of course tehteh still thinks he's elite, but that's a given.

Yeah, I'm surprised at Weigel, and also Bryse Wilson. I know Wilson's stuff isn't known to be great, but couldn't even get a mention on the 45ers?

Ah just noticed there was an honorable mention section at the end of the top 100 list. I thought that the article from today was an elaborated honorable mention post. Thanks for pointing that out.

Wilson seems like a helium guy that found his way lists as a contrarian type guy, which - mind you I do like Keith Law a lot - is the type of thing Law does to a fault.

Modification of BSOML?

Either way, this is a delicious sign.

Yeah...he had a tired arm last year which was the main driver of staying in extended spring training while his other 2016 draft peers went to Rome to start the year.

Last season, he struck out 49 in 47.2 ip in the 80s. If he really is sustaining mid-90s, watch out

Yeah, I'm really confused on where to label Allard right now. I like his secondary stuff, but that fastball is beginning to scare me -- it's pretty meh.

That being said, crafty guys can go really far in the league, so we'll see.
