Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

I meant to say we can't re-write history. You are saying the deal is even worse because they could have just signed him. Well they didn't so that has no bearing on this deal.

Same as you can't predict the future...guess they figured there wasn't a spot for Peraza so they'd just give him away...fine just Olivera for Wood and I can live with it but not thrilled but the rest of the trade is garbage

@AnthonyDiComo: Alderson adds that a trade with the Brewers "won't happen" before the deadline, either. Indicates #Mets are still looking for a bat.

So we aren't getting this guy?

I'll admit trading for a 30-year-old who hasn't played in majors doesn't fit Going With Youth. But #Braves did bid $40M for Hector Olivera.- Mark Bradley

Also Jesse Sanchez says Olivera hasn't been told a thing

Say Wood gets TJ #2....in the Braves current state would you trade Peraza / JJ / Av for Olivera?

I am not trading that sort of package for anyone who isn't either an established major league regular or top 20 overall prospect. Pereza has similar value to Olivera. I would be willing to bet over the next 5-6 years, both have similar value.

I think they are already considering it with tehearn. Until Miller shows any decline in velocity or stuff then I see noreason to trade him. He hasn't been hurt once yet.

Mikler had a hurt shoulder in september, 2013

Realistic (I think) hope at this point. Braves holding out for more after their specialists looked at Olivera medicals.

I agree if he was 26-27 but at 30, he has maybe 3-4 good years?

If hes legit.

Well yeah, obviously the age matters, but if he has 3-4 good years then the Braves will make out just fine. A player's production isn't worth more at age 26 than it is at 30. The issue is where that aligns with our win curve. I don't think we can contend by next season, but it's also not a ridiculous notion either.

I am one of the biggest Wood fans out there and I like Peraza, but the purpose of acquiring this dearth of pitching prospects was to flip them for position players. I wouldn't have made this exact trade personally, but in a vacuum it makes sense.
