Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

The only way this trade makes sense is if the Braves just think Olivera is going to be a superstar at 3b. I guess he has a chance.

We got a guy who, come 2017, will absolute best-case, be OPS'ing about .850 with questionable defense while playing about 120 or so games. And even best-case, that OPS would likely start dropping to below .800 soon after while we're paying him for another 3 years.

And again, that's best-case. We gave up a pitcher who put up almost 4 WAR last year with the 4th best ERA among LHP since being in the majors and a very good young SS prospect for that. I'm sorry, that's just a bad trade.

It doesn't matter what the wear and tear on your body is. You slow down and wear down after 30 due to natural aging process. Plus he played a ****load in Cuba at an early age; does that not count?

If you decided to actually read the entire post, I specifically state that I'm just as concerned because the miles he didn't accumulate were due to lots of injuries... We're on the same page here so not sure why you're trying so hard just to s**t on my post. Just standard operating giles procedure. Gotta always say something to try and pick an argument.

And not every person magically wears down at 30... plenty of baseball players stay productive well into their mid 30s.

Yeah, I'm not a big believer in Peraza personally, but having him in this deal is . . . wow. It's hard to argue that we got equivalent value.

If the deal as we currently know it eventually stands you are going to see a lot of people arguing that we achieved equivalent value in dollars. That's the only angle that makes real sense. Unfortunately, that's also predicated on Olivera cutting muster in the Majors at a very robust level.

Baseball players hit a decline at 30. That's fact that has been proven and there is no denying it. We are paying a hefty price for a declining player. I sorry but Frank Wren wouldn't be dumb enough to make this move. It's a bad move. Plain and simple.

sources: blue Jays are making a major push for david price

Let's hope they do it before this deal is finalized so the Dodgers can either back out since they can't flip a Wood for an ace, or we can pump them for more since they're more desperate for a good SP.

braves are the new florida marlins. saving a buck is the most important thing to the organization. why give up juan uribe for a bag of baseballs? because they don't want to spend any more money than they have to. losing on purpose, slashing payroll and now trading legit talent to save more money on a different guy and avoid having to give wood a raise in the process.

And what about buying Toussaint for 10?

How many since the juice has been banned?

I posted the typical aging curve of major league baseball players. WHy would anyone assume Olivera can age better than others besides looking the thethe glasses?

He was dumb enough to dump Tex for nothing and to pay a hefty price for Uggla's decline.

Have you guys watched video of Olivera hitting? He really does have very impressive bat speed, bordering on elite. I really think he's going to be a really good hitter. Health due to his age is my main concern here.

Again, I never said he would... so not sure why you're trying to pick a fight with me only to pick a fight... I clearly said I'm concerned. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Wow, impressive, but you can definitely see why he has elbow issues.

Except we spent about $10 million to acquire Touki and also spent pretty well on the international market with rumors of blowing out the bank next year.

Best case playing 120 games?

Honestly, yes. That is a reasonable best-case scenario. He didn't play at all in 2012 or 2014, then played in 19 games this year before sitting with a hamstring injury. Why would we have reason to believe that guy would give us a full season post-30?
