Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

In a word, Yes.

I think Braves could have / should have made a better deal. Not a disaster, but a bad deal. I think this deal is less risky than some are suggesting though. I suspect there may be some that hate the risk in this deal but are foaming at the mouth to sign guys like Price and Upton to albatross deals. I think this deal is less harmful to the Braves future than some of the potential free agent signings folks are longing for.

There may be less risk in the money, but the cost to us was also Wood and Peraza, so there is a ton of risk.

The longer we don't hear anything about this deal, the more likely it is that it has fallen apart.

Hopefully Hart's masterplan...wishful thinking I know.

Get the Dodger's tied up in a trade to acquire a top notch starter in Wood, allow the other best options on the market to go elsewhere (Price, Hamels, Cueto), decline the medicals on Olivera and restart negotiations and get someone maybe even the Dodgers to panic and give up significantly more, all the while driving up Tehran's value to the rival of the potential team that acquires Wood.

Fingers crossed.

LOOK WHat I did. Would you just look at that!

Cmon Hart, we know you're the master of spin.

This would be glorious.

There's no doubt that Wood's value to a team desperate for SP is even higher now, so we should absolutely use this as an opportunity to change things up, however we have to do it. As Millwood speculated, Olivera's health would be a good way to do it.

I think he'll be a notch above Cespedes offensively. More BB's and less K's. And at 3B that's a pretty valuable player. But of course his skills should be starting to diminish due to his age. I think maybe he'll be more like Eric Hosmer offensively. The good version of Hosmer.

Told Hector Olivera likely will embrace trade from #Dodgers to #Braves. Closer to Cuba. Better tax situation. More certain playing time.

Not to mention the top notch retirement homes and golf courses, you know things your typical 30 year old prospect would like.

Tough to play golf with a bum elbow and a wonky hamstring.

Comparing the two; Olivera played 10 seasons in CUBA (18-28) and hit .323/.407/.505 with walking 11% of the time and k'ing 8% of the time. Iso slugging of .182.

Cespedes played 8 seasons (17-24) and hit .319/.404/.585 with walking 10% of the time and k'ing 13% of the time. Isoslg of .266

Obviously, it would be best to just compare 18-24 year old seasons which would have better numbers for Cespedes and less for Olivera.

Cespedes has averaged .268/.316/.471 but was done during his prime. This season he's at .289/.320/.497 as a 29 year old.

I think Olivera may hit for higher average, but much less power. So maybe a rough guess is .285/.330/.450?
