Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

That's true, but it does give us a good player at a position of need for a very team friendly contract. So we don't need a 3B now and we still will have plenty of money to spend to improve the roster.

We could have just hung on to Uribe and be in a similar place at 3b. And still have Peraza, Arroyo and Wood. What we wouldn't have are those high A pitchers who look like "organizational depth" to me.

Biggest problem I have is Hart is not going with his plan of trading guys who are decent now for younger guys with more upside. He mortgaged the future to get Olivera; this guy better be damned good. Doesn't sound to me like he's any better than Uribe, just younger.

Heard #Braves Olivera compared to Travis Fryman offensively a couples times today inc. by Hart, who also comp'd to Scott Rolen (offensively)

#Braves are comparing Olivera to Travis Fryman or Scott Rolen offensively -- a .270 or .280 hitter with some power

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but Braves expect Olivera back in 7-10 days (whether that's in AAA or with Atlanta is not clear).

Is there anyone who likes the trade? I gather board has melted down in general, but there are those on the interwebs that question how long Wood could play before having arm troubles.

I like this trade more than the Uribe/KJ trade to be honest. That one I don't get at all.

Prediction: he will play, look ok for a few weeks. Fans will start to move on and support the deal. Then bang, TJ surgery, and he's out till 2017 when he'll be 87 years old

So we are comparing him to a guy with a 104 career OPS+? Here were his OPS+ at age 30 and above 80, 127, 76, 72 and out of the league at 33.

Scot Rolen would be much better as he was 122 with great defense.

Not a person here that I've seen that likes it. Haven't read any national analysis report that likes it for us either.

Again - no issues with trading Wood or Peraza but I'm baffled at the weak return. Uribe put up a .817 OPS for us and played good defense... and we're asking for Olivera to actually be worse than that

#Braves John Hart on Hector Olivera: "We liked the bat. He's affordable, and that will allow us to do more things."

If Olivera turns into a .280/.350/.450 hitter with 20 HRs and average defense at 3B for the next 3-4 years, AND the extra money is used to make a huge upgrade in LF, C or the rotation, then I have no problem with this trade. If the payroll hovers around $90M next year, then we know it was a cost cutting move, and was likely the best they could do under the circumstances.

What extra money? Most I can find is the $4.5M from arroyo next year, and that isn't confirmed

Why, why, why and one more why, did we just GIVE them our number two prospect? That's my holdup. That is literally one of the dumbest things we've done.

Easy. They had to give him up to get even more salary relief. Ownership is really going to turn a hell of a profit this year. They're building the stadium that will make them a fortune on the backs of their fan's misfortunes.
