Ferguson....

Ya know, it is possible to be against police brutality and for peaceful protest while at the same time:

1) letting the investigation play out before jumping to a conclusion

And

2) not acting like theft and the destruction of private property is acceptable and just a mere distraction

Just saying...

weird

it's almost like people get upset when unarmed citizens are murdered by police

well, i guess i should say some cause some people (even in this thread) are more worried about a quick trip gas station

that i am having debates in the real world and internet about the very simple task of not having a police force that kills fellow citizens, doesn't bully citizens from practicing their rights and isn't detaining journalists for doing their constitutional rights as well is absurd to me. It makes it even ****ing crazier that it is usually with people that say they hate "tyranny" and their rights being taken away.

this was real tyranny the other day

not the bull**** the tea party militia (that never came to help their fellow Americans btw) that screams when they are ranting about lunch programs that are better for childrens health or a more energy efficient being your only choice at the store.

****ing maddening

Getting upset about someone being murdered doesn't mean I have to go steal some televisions and burn down a gas station.

You have to be lazy and/or an idiot to be a minority and not be able to get into a good college, more than likely with a full ride.

gf, you deserve some kind of bizarro medal or decoration for this post. You really stepped up your game and came through in the clutch with that one.

Going to a mostly black high school, I saw it first hand. The kids that put effort are successful and got college paid for. The ones that didn't are in jail.

I'm all about personal accountability - but to act as if black folks are given fair treatment in this country is ludicrous. All you have to look at is the drug war - and the incarceration rate of blacks vs whites, to understand that the legal system has a prejudice against blacks. These are facts - you can be ignorant if you wish.

Additionally, we can't forget that blacks were set back about 5 generations from an educational standpoint with little things like... oh, I don't know... slavery? Essentially, white folks were about 100 years ahead of blacks when it comes to education, and that will take its toll. That is why blacks are less educated today, have single parent households, and are poor as ****. Generally, when you're extremely poor, you're more likely to make mistakes. And those mistakes are treated quite harshly with our judicial system.

Additionally again, blacks are done a major dis-service with the special welfare programs that are designed to keep them poor, and thus keep them voting (D). I'm of the belief that welfare causes dependency, and dependency causes stupidity. But I know I'm in the minority there.

Lastly, the militarization of our police force has become absurd. We essentially have a standing military on our homefront, and they are trained to take down US citizens. Folks like Kgcrew, thethe, and GF love this. But when you think about it, it's a terrifying proposition. Lest we forget, it was only a year ago where Martial Law was executed in Boston in order to find two teenagers. Forcing families to leave their homes with guns drawn to their backs, all in the name of "keeping us safe." We should also not forget, that they failed to find the two teenagers. Lastly, let's not forget that a parade was thrown for these dickheads, with cheerleaders like thethe and GF applauding their utter tyrannic failure.

The police in this country are the shoot-first, ask questions later group. Their power and ego has gotten out of control. And now they can walk around with military equipment and tanks - all while we want to disarm every one else. Makes sense. \

Carry on

So here is the image from the convenience store where Brown and his buddy stole cigars from moments before the shooting incident.

Johnson, btw, is the friend that was with Brown when he was shot. Johnson claimed to have seen Brown walking and met up with him on the way home. Video surveillance proves that to be false and Johnson was a co-conspirator in the robbery. Thus, Johnsons statement has already been proven false (though I'm sure everything else about his statement is true, huh?)

So Johnsons account of two law abiding citizens peacefully walking down the street is already in question and as both him and Brown were certainly worried they were about to get arrested.

Been on vacation so I'm not up to speed on this story. Would the following sum up things and work for most of you:

The growing militarization of police forces is a troubling & potentially very dangerous phenomenon.

White people aren't black people and try as hard as we can we (white folks) don't really understand what it feels like to being under suspicion when we are innocent?

The factors that have gone into the social and cultural situation of many urban and poor rural communities are complex. Sins of the fathers are both still effecting them. And to which their own and our own sins mix. There's a lot of guilt to go around.

Personal responsibility is a good thing.

Looting and violent rioting are illegitimate means to protest, well virtually anything. Neither just nor wise.

Stealing, bullying, hurting other and being a person characterized by these things (non-Robinhoods) is not something to be glamorized, or defended. Such actions aren't noble and they don't help the offender, the victims or the community.

Police sometimes have to use lethal force in the protection of others.

Some police use that force unwisely, wrongly, stupidly, sinfully.

There are numerous bad players that benefit, thrive on and fuel racial discord and it is easy to get caught up and led in one direction or another by such.

hit the nail on the head, you and me both. That is the gist of my explanation

Wait... you mean to tell me that like the Duke rap case, the Trayvon Martin case and the Crowley incident social media might have jumped to conclusions here? Say it aint so. I can't believe it. Shocking that there may be more to this story then told.

Maybe next time our immediate assumptions and speculation will be completely accurate and worthwhile. It's certainly too much to expect folks to have learned their lesson.

Some people just can't resist the dramatic irony.

Well, I suppose it's more tragic irony to anybody who viewed the situation objectively from the get-go.

On a vacant building next door, someone had used red-orange paint to write: "The only good cop is a dead cop."

Yeah...excellent mindset
