FIFA World Cup 2014

Top drawing team in NBA averaged 21,716 this year (Bulls) last year's top drawing MLS team averaged 44,038. Removing the Sounders who're kind of an anomaly the next highest was LA Galaxy 22,152. The league as a whole averaged 1,400 more fans per game and MLS is on the rise while NBA is dying. NBA is only sticking around because of their TV deals. Guess where most of that money comes from? Guess who also is the number 1 champion of the NBA? Here's a hint, it's ESPN. Sure some teams would still be around, but you can bet that NBA would be considering contracting.

Don't most MLS stadiums hold much more than NBA? Pretty sure that will skew the numbers.......care to show me the money generated from MLS jersey sales and NBA ones?

Also did ESPN engineer Bron/KD/Curry/Dame/Love/Melo/Kobe/etc/etc/etc?

The NBA is alive because they haven't had this kind of talent since the late 80's.

MLS average % of capacity was 87.54% So no.

And MLS has only been around for like 20 years so it passing the NBA in any way is huge for it.

As far as jersey and merch sales I'm sure the NBA is higher. If you can't see that right now the NBA is on the fall then it will be sorry.

MLS attendance is DOWN this year .60% compared to 2013....so yeah....good job, good effort.

60% or .60%?

0.60%

Which of course is a down for a sport

How about we compare in some metro markets

Timbers beat the Trailblazers
Real Salt Lake beat the Jazz
Galaxy beats Clippers who beat Chivas USA
Dynamo beat Rockets
Union beat Sixers
Mavs beat FC Dallas

In the last decade from 2004 with a league average game attendence of 15K to a current league average of 18,608 at the finish of 2013.

MLS grew past NBA in average game attendance and who knows how the post World CUp will draw.

We aren't comparing each market, you said the MLS is on the rise....yet their attendance is down, granted it's not down a ton but it's DOWN. So that doesn't jive with you saying it's on the rise. Take out the 40k team and their attendance per game is lower than the NBA's.

MLS just got a new TV deal, MLS likely felt a pre WOrld Cup lull and may now experience a post world cup boom (TBD)

You also said the MLS plays to 84% capacity, correct? NBA played last year at 90.9%

Even though i bash the NBA, it isnt on the fall.

No parity, and a lot of top-heavy teams but ratings wise, it still produces alot.

The NBA is in better shape at this point. My hopes are that the MLS will really take off and their are encouraging signs. Hopefully this world cup draws more people into following the MLS.

NBA is at a better point, cause they have IIRC the second biggest TV deal for a league. MLS is on the rise and hopefully will rise even further and they have 4 teams coming in soon with Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, and NYC. People are very excited for at least Atlanta and NYC.

Yeah, no. You said "Don't most MLS stadiums hold much more than NBA?" which is talking about the individual stadium and how a team draws at home?

What are you even talking about....each stadium is apart of the league, unless I'm missing something? YOU said the MLS was on the rise and the NBA was saved by only ESPN....YOU didn't mention team by team, YOU mentioned the leagues. So again, why would you only use home numbers when you are talking about LEAGUES "dying" and "rising"?

% of capacity is probably the dumbest argument out there. If there is demand for more fans, larger stadiums/arenas would be built.
