Frank Wren's Winter Meeting Exit Interview On XM

Sale for Hewyard...man. Who hangs up?

Although Heyward for Sale would be silly, Braves need to start thinking about drafting or a package to trade and or replace Heyward. Dude doesn't want to extend. Same applies for Freddie.

Sign him? Give him what he wants. You need stars for people to come see when you open that nice new stadium built on public funding in 2017

It's not being built entirely on public funding. The Braves are actually putting more money down on the table than Cobb is.

Start a guy who was one of the best players in baseball last year. If you lose to fa who cares **** happens.

lol at Jason being oe of the best players last season. You can use all sorts of stats that you care about, but what I saw last season was an injury prone inconsistent player. Pretty much on par with his career.

Look at our record and Jason's numbers after we moved him to leadoff.

Cant blame his injuries last year on him.

First one was a surgery that came out of nowhere, and he got hit in the ****ing jaw which is unlucky as hell.

And yes, he was one of our best players, by far.

I think Zito was referring to 2012. Which was last year. But if you are talking about 2013 then how was he an injury prone player? Unless you consider it likely he has another appendectomy or gets his jaw broken again. Those are freaks or nature and not signs of being injury prone.

Its all about maxing your value, and getting sustained success.

Im not sure we could get Sale for Heyward but doesnt hurt to offer it up and see what happens.

Sale has an insane team-friendly deal for the next 5-6 years.

What should they do, keep him and let him go for a draft pick in 2 years?

You also maximize your window to win now which should be the goal. It's the same reason that dealing Kimbrel now would be dumb. This team can win it all with a tweak here or there. We need to go for it while we can. The window is only there for 2-3 more years. Dealing your good players for prospect packages and hoping to get some good returns out of that is not what we should be doing.

If he's a 5th starter for us that would surprise the hell out of me.

If the Braves trade for Jeff Samardzija this offseason and he's only their fifth best starter in 2014, then somethings will likely have gone very great with the other members of the rotation.

Braves really just need to go for it for once. Not say trade the farm but dont trade the best players now. If we have to rebuild so be it, the draft picks be a foundation to rebuild the team. We could get picks for Heyward/JUpton/Medlen one offseason then picks for Kimbrel/Freeman/ and potentially Beachy if he avoids re injury. Should we trade for Samardzija that would be one more pick after 2015.

I dont think all of them will leave. Players like Heyward/Freeman probably dont think they have maxed out their potential yet. If Heyward puts up a .300/.400/.500+ kind of year I think both he and the Braves will be more willing to negotiate. The Braves can afford to pay out big contracts, they just need to actually earn even half of it. We paid Uggla/BJ 26.2 million and we probably would have been better off if they spent the whole year on the DL. We could easily afford two 20 million a year contracts if they would atleast perform like 15 million a year players.

obviously. But it is being built with the publics money including my cousin who will pay more taxes to help fund the stadium

Since the public is helping out the team has a responsibility to spend more money on players now imo. None of this 89-90 m self imposed cap nonsense.

Does your cousin live in a hotel and eat all of his meals in restaurants in Cobb County?
And it isnt like public money is not used for frivolity in Puerto Rico.

I'd hate to trade Heyward but if he is still refusing next offseason then I trade him. Instead of an unknown pick I'd trade him for a stud already in the minors somewhere. I always figured we'd only be able to keep one of Heyward and Freeman.

This might be an example of some discussions needing to fall under more "topical threads"...don't remember those guys mentioning anything to Wren about trading Heyward or the new stadium...LOL.
