#Braves announced today that they have extended the contract of manager Fredi Gonzalez through the 2016 season, with a club option for 2017

It'll just make 2017 sweeter when we don't exercise his option and find a good manager for our playoff runs, right?

I may be way off in my interpretation of what Hart said, but my impression is Fredi is not going to be brought back as manager.

Ahem.

What is the point in dropping him when we aren't expected to contend in 2016 / until 2017? If we didn't extend, we'd have to search for another manager to take over for a season of losing, with people then calling for that manager's head as well prior to the 2017 season in our new ballpark. It would just be the same cycle repeating. Wait until after 2016 to bring in a new manager to win in the new stadium when we are expected to (and hopefully will) contend.

This doesn't surprise me a bit. I've said all along that there's no way they would ask Fredi to manage during a rebuild without promising him a chance to mangl...manage The Mighty ****s, 2017.

He who laughs last . . .

Maybe a bit out there, but is it possible they also want to show Gonzalez as the head coach to all those international free agents next year? I would think it would be more appealing to have a relatable presence to look forward to and even talk with when considering which team to sign with.

If asked in their native tongue, I'm sure they would prefer a good manager over one who can make a bad decision in more than one language.

Oy. I'm disappointed with this decision. A one year extension ain't exactly a vote of confidence though. Fredi will be coaching for his job next year. Playoffs or bust, you'd think.

Maybe they put out some feelers with Bud Black and others and didn't hear what they wanted.
