Howard a couple days ago. A little over the top as he doesn't strike fear in anyone, but I'd say he was well liked

"For me it's a very easy equation," Howard said of Donovan at the nation's training camp at Stanford University. "If Landon's (Donovan) on the field he's in our top one or two players.

"That's just my opinion, whether that means anything I don't know.

"But Landon's humble and I'm sure he feels that way but for me he's easily one of our best players and he strikes fear in opponents."

US starting XI for friendly 1 is

GK - Howard

RB - Johnson

CB - Cameron

CB - Besler

LB - Beasley

CDM - Jones

LM - Bedoya

RM - Zusi

CM (maybe CAM) - Bradley

CF - Dempsey (listed as striker but I think he'll play back more than a traditional ST)

ST - ALtidore

Hopefully we get goals and prevent them.

Interesting that seemingly the 3 guys fighting for starting spots will come on. Really liking the look of Fabian Johnson at RB so far.

Brad Davis sure is a class A bum. I think it's becoming more and more obvious that the exclusion of Davis and Zusi were 2 of the bigger mistakes by Bradley. I won't throw Bob totally under the bus. But it's patently obvious given the massive improvement in depth under Klinsmann even without too many players coming of age under Klinsmann. He went outside the US to get a few recruits but that's what a great coach does. But he also looked at guys like Besler, Beckerman, Gonzalez, Zusi, etc. who were in MLS and seemingly didn't exist in the eyes of BB.

I thought we looked very poor vs. a terrible squad. Maybe we just took them lightly, but way too many bad passes.

No comments on Davis? Hardly played a pass wrong, created chances from set pieces and moved the ball forward.

US has some work to do in the back. Besler was sloppy in possession and I don't know if Beasley and Johnson will work out as I think they're both attacking minded fullbacks.

US was unlucky to not have more goals. Overall Jozy looked very good, much better with Johansson than Wondo so if Dempsey is getting pulled and Jozy isn't that's who I want on. Wondo was unlucky to not have a goal. US dominated possession, they dominated chances, and they could have easily walked away with a 5-0 result between the 2 great saves/poor luck on Wondo and the 2 100% legit penalty shouts with the one being more egregious than the missed handball.

Davis is garbage.

That's the best you got? He played better than Donovan has in almost a year. If it wasn't for Bedoyas strong performance he'd probably be starting

If he's starting, there is a reason people expect them to finish last in the group.

Here's my take on the group winners

GroupA: Brazil, Croatia
GroupB: Spain, Netherlands
GroupC: Colombia, Ivory Coast
GroupD: Italy, England
GroupE: France, Switzerland
GroupF: Argentina, Bos&Herz
GroupG: Germany, Portugal
GroupH: Belgium, Algeria

I don't think England advances.

I have Greece over Ivory Coast

I have Russia over Algeria
