Gatom & Wilbo

I know ole Sav made a post on the main board about Mike Adams, but since I made a post about him on this forum I figured I'd bring it up again. I really think he would've loved this board.

I think he would post on this board right now if he knew about it.

I've seen Mike post something over at baseballthinkfactory in the past month, but there's no good way to communicate directly with people over there.

IIRC the scenarios

BTBravos was from SAV, he was in contact with him and someone contacted him or he found his obituary online. MrWho's wife posted under his SN that he passed, IO someone knew him off the board and foudn his obituary which we were able to more or less confirm about what we knew about him, I don't know about Wilbo. I forget how anyone learned about TallahasseeBravo, I think it was similar to IO though, someone kenw him and found out through some means (believe an Alabama board)

BTBravosFan was from New York.

He and I would talk on AIM and even have phone conversations. He was also in really bad health, and was taking xanax for depression. I happened to be the last person he spoke to on the phone, as his dad called me from his phone the next day to tell me they found his body overdosed. He didn't purposely overdose.

I still remember Mr. Who's last few posts.

I think he may have had gangrene or something? I remember him mentioning all the amputations he had.

You are good peep, a person to lean on and can actually stomach me, that takes some serious gnads.

Well that is four peeps we lost since our boards been active I know of, two I knew, two I never got acquainted with. A family doesn't have to be blood, but converse here, beat each other up and laugh when all said in done. My enemies would go to a bar and buy me a drink as much as I would because deep down we are Braves fans.

Wilbo could be the king of all douches at times (as can I, I suppose), if he and I could have gotten at each other a couple of times we would probably have had a brawl, but the last year or so that we posted together we actually became pretty close. I actually considered him a friend and I'll never forget the little orchestral number he found online and posted for me, where they were doing the theme music from an old Clint Eastwood western. If anyone knew him more closely maybe they can shed more light on this, but I believe he was a Vietnam vet, who was wounded over there serving his country. I had no idea he was dead, but his health wasn't good and when he had that one surgery they made him quit riding his bike for a while, which I think for him was way more therapy than health related. I think he practically lived on that bicycle and I know when he had to lay off for a while it really hurt him. He was definitely an odd bird, so to speak, but I will always consider him a good one.

Gatom is/was a nice guy but seemed to be an old school guy, not real comfortable with technology at times, but at other times he was like a teenager. I consider him another casualty of politics. All he ever listened to (from what he said) were extreme right wing radio shows and anyone who only takes in stuff from an extreme (left or right) is likely to get poisoned from that crap. That's why I think he got kinda bitter towards the end of when we posted together. I hope he finds/found peace. I still consider him a friend.

As for IO, he was from the far far left politically, AND a Mets fan, but still a good guy. He and I spoke via PM on several occasions and I found him to be a truly good person who cared more about other people than he did himself. I definitely believe his party could have learned a lot from him, rather than that other way around.

Mr. Who was one of the very nicest and best quality people I've ever known. I don't think he had a mean or vindictive bone in his body. I'll never be as good a person as he was on his very worst day. He and I spoke a lot via PM and he was an older guy who seemed a bit out of touch with technology and people, especially bad people with agendas who would come in from time to time and try to run off everyone who didn't agree with them. I would tell him what I thought about politics, people, etc., via PM and his responses would absolutely amaze you. I also know he was in a LOT of pain from his health problems towards the end but he never complained, never got bitter towards anyone and no matter what he could always make YOU feel better with his kind and wise words. I also know that he knew he was going to die and soon. He was and will always be an inspiration to me on what we should all strive to be.

OHawk sums it up pretty well. Hard to top any of the above guys though totally different posters. Mr. Who was a dear old brother. He and I private messaged back and forth as should come as no surprise. He was concerned about each of you who were around then. Prayed for you and wondered always how best to interact with you. In other words, a saint.

I had heard that IO was dead. Though a Mets fan and the guy nearly always next to 57 on the left side of the spectrum, he was never malicious. Miss him.

Gatom just would flat-out make me laugh. I do think gold was his kryptonite.

Wilbo, are you guys sure about him dying? May be - I just don't remember ever finding out about that. Yes, he had heart problems, but as I remember came back after surgery and was all vegan on us. During our first couple of years interacting on Scout and its predecessors, it was rough. You know he didn't mind belittling Christians. Yet, something changed in our interactions over the last year or so of posting. We had a few private messages and he was kind to me. As Julio notes, he could have those long - autobiographical and vulgar posts that were strange beauties. He was like several Vietnam Vets I have known - and have tried to understand - and have respected, despite the crust.

Some great names. Every time someone mentions Redneckparamedic, I think of that night in the old Scout chat room during the winter meetings when everyone participating agreed that the next guy coming in was going to get pimped and boy did we pimp him with a bunch of fake trades. He was going back and forth to mlb.com trying to get confirmation and would come back saying "Are you guys sure?" Everybody just kept on going, citing supposed source and supposed site over and over and over. Nobody broke and people just kept coming up with the greatest additional comments. I think it was Bill who finally pulled the plug and the Redneckparamedic stormed off (or whatever you do when you leave a chat room in a huff) and I don't know if he ever returned. Probably the most fun I've had on a sports board/chat room.

Agree with Meta and Beds, last I read Wilbo was on hiatus because his girlfriend was irritated. Evidently he was spending too much time with piglet at the BBQ.

I haven't heard of Wilbo's passing, but I hope it is not the case.

I am probably one of the few if only people that had actually met him in person. I'm sure those of you who are old school posters probably remember that I used to work at the stadium. During a playoff game in the early 2000s he stopped by Skyfield just to see me. First thing he did was give me a big hug. He was always sweet to me even though I loved Chipper and he thought he was the spawn of Satan. I know he was crazy, but I loved chatting with him.
