Gattis Traded To Astros (pg. 13)

Bowman saying the Astros and Rangers are in the mix. There's one prospect we NEED to land and that's Nomar Mazara.

Lovely...Gattis is the one position player rumored to be on the market that I most wanted to keep on the team. I understand the move, but I don't have to like it. I may be saving $130 this year by not renewing my mlb.tv package. I will root hard for my Braves through this rebuilding, but that doesn't mean I will pay money to watch prospects develop,

I'd pay money to watch prospects, not to watch Nick Markakis.

I'd love to watch the prospects develop if I could visit the games personally. I can keep up with prospect development right here, thanks to the expert insight of folks like rico43. I didn't mind the Markakis signing, but it makes less sense if Gattis is traded. Now it's not reload, compete for now, and build a beast by 2017. It seems like now the plan is to suck royally, get two protected picks (2015 and 2016), and hope that the prospects are ready to contend for a World Series (with no playoff experience) by 2017.

I don't need to spend $130 to see that, when I can root just as hard for them for free.

Here's the Bowman article with key quote below. Seems to indicate that Gattis does not have the trade value we had initially hoped.

"There was a point when the Braves were hoping to land a Major League-ready starting pitcher or outfielder in exchange for Gattis. But it appears their most recent discussions have provided reason to believe they would be more likely to gain a crop of prospects if they deal the 28-year-old slugger, who will not be eligible for free agency until after the 2018 season."

The #Astros have brought #Braves catcher Evan Gattis into Houston for a physical today. They are one of 3 teams aggressively pursuing him.

#Braves talked to #Astros about Gattis/B.J. trade earlier, and 'Stros remain very interested in getting EG. Believe at least 2 AL teams are

So what do the Astros have that the Braves would be interested in? Fowler is one that pops into my mind. Not sure in this potential deal though.

BTW, how about Gattis in that ballpark? If healthy, he could be a 30+ home run hitter.

I'm probably one of the biggest fans of Gattis on the board. But I know his limitations playing LF and his value is at it's absolute highest right now. We should cash in before he's exploited in the OF or gets hurt.

The Braves were interested in Carlos Corporan (alongside Fowler) earlier in the offseason in a deal that would have involved BJ, although I doubt that there is a spot for him now given the Pierzynski signing.

The Astros are loaded with prospects. All of these guys are interesting to me.

3B: Rio Ruiz, Colin Moran, JD Davis
OF: Preston Tucker, Domingo Santana, Derek Fisher, Toescar Hernandez
SP: Appel, Feliz, Hader, Velaquez,

No brainer here. Get the best prospects possible and wish Gattis well. He'll do grrat in the AL and make a lot of money for himself. Everyone wins.
