Gattis Traded To Astros (pg. 13)

Not to beat a dead horse but...

I'm sure Kimbrel is pleased with this offseason too. His quotes after signing the extension last year.

"I want to stay here with a group of guys that I came up with and I'm comfortable with," Kimbrel said. "In the game of baseball, it's who you're around, it's the team you're on and the guys you're surrounded by. We have an awesome core here. I think this is a core that can win for a long time."

"I can see what we're doing as an organization and ballclub," Kimbrel said. "We're going out to win. As of right now, we're planning on winning for a long time. This is where I want to be. I want to be closing out division titles and championships and World Series. We've got the team to do it and I'm very excited."

Feels like our players that got extended were lied to. Sure they are making millions but would of made more had they gone to free agency. The concept of being a great young team that will win is a great one that would make people want to stay. Too bad that's not the case anymore.

Plans change. Nobody was lied to. That's an absurd statement in my opinion.

Kimbrel really should be traded. He is here through 2017 and has a 2018 option. I doubt we are relevant by then and I'm sure we could get some good pieces back.

Mid season is the time for that. Atleast no one will complain Kimbrel is being over used anymore.

Plans change after one year? If the Braves had won the division or wild card this season would we rebuilding? It wouldn't have changed the circumstanecs surrounding Heyward or Justin. Nothing about those two changed from this offseason from last. So if plans changed then thats some piss poor mangement from our front office.

Well when the farm is one of the worst in baseball and the core players don't want to take less than market it's great management to make the prudent move for the long term health of the organization

So the farm wasn't one of the worst last year? Again, nothing has changed from this offseason to last. Our farm was still crap. We knew about the possibile departure of Heyward and Justin. I just find it odd that knowing all of this that you and almost everyone else was on board with everyone extending and how this team was setup to win for a long time. Now after a subpar year then team is now broken and we have to rebuild to save our farm system.

Again, if the team won the wild card or division in 2014 do you think we would be rebuilding? Would we need to save our depleted farm and build for the future or keep rolling with what we have now?

The overall outlook of the teams future can't change that much in a span of one year. If it can then that's just poor management. And I don't think this is all Wrens fault either. I think he was fired as a scapegoat to make it seem he left the team in shambles.

The nick markakis deal makes even less sense to me.... but im glad we got value for gattis. Next is Kimbrel on the trade block maybe Minor.

A lot can change in one year actually:

1. Gattis proved he wasn't a long term option at catcher therefore severely minimizing his value to a NL team.
2. BJ UPton followed a historically awful season with another awful season.
3. Chris Johnson was inexplicably extended and has a terrible season
4. Mike Minor has an injury issue that questions just how reliable he will be in the future
5. No prospect emerges as a legit second base candidate
6. Essentially everyone on the farm takes a step backwards aside from Peraza/Albies
7. The 2013 draft shows itself to so far being an absolute joke

Yes, a lot can change in just one season to make the future of a once promising franchise look very bleak unless specific actions are taken.

I'm still going to wait and see what the rest of the offseason looks like before I say that but I do get where yo uguys are coming from with this.

Kimbrel is here until atleast the deadline IMO.

Minor as to prove he is healthy and pitch better in the first half. Could be a July deal here too.

Grilli/Johnson both could be gone come July 31st.

Braves hope and pray someone will ask for CJ and BJ.

2015 is a waste. They will not contend for much of anything. Build the farm and let the prospects grow.

The arguments about lineups are going to get real depressing this year. Name a clean up hitter that is going to hit behind Freeman. Simmons? Pederson? CJ or BJ? Bethancourt? Laird?

The Braves appear to be on the verge of trading Evan Gattis , but it remains unclear whether Gattis will be dealt to the Astros or the Rangers.

The Astros and Braves exchanged names for a potential deal and Gattis traveled to Houston on Wednesday to undergo a physical. Published reports said the deal has been agreed upon, but multiple industry sources said there is still a chance that Gattis will end up going elsewhere if the Rangers sweeten their current offer.
