Gausman claimed by the Reds per Passan

Here's my conspiracy theory:

The Melancon trade originally called for Gausman to go the Giants. Farhan Zaidi has this idea. Why don't you waive him and we'll see what happens. If another team claims him great. If not we will. The detail I'm wondering about: are the Reds ahead of the Giants in claiming order. I know they have a worse record, but I believe claiming order has to do with record over the past 162 games.

Good decision by the FO. He wasn’t going to be of use the rest of the season. He looked completely lost on the mound. If they couldn’t put him in AAA then there was no reason to hold onto him.

Love it

we can only speculate at this point

Given Anthopoulos’ comments, and some parsimonious reasoning, I’m going to assume roster flexibility really is the predominating factor (after, obviously, Gausman’s results staying terrible and not converging to his league-average inputs).

Amendment to conspiracy theory: AA has an idea too. Let us give him one more start to see how he looks. Then we waive him if he looks bad. win-win-win as far as all three of the Braves, Giants and Reds are concerned.

I suspect some of the details outlined above would be frowned upon by the commissioner's office. Which makes it an even better conspiracy between two guys who know each other. Better not be any paper or electronic trail.

I thought one of Gausman or Teheran would be moved or not brought back this off-season. Guess its Gausman. So we save about 3M.

He might have helped us in the pen in September/October.

I don't like the move, we'd been better off trying Gausman as closer with that splitter and skipping the Greene trade altogether. His velo out of the pen would be better and he could do well closing with his splitter. Oh well.

Could we not simply pull him back if claimed, or has that rule changed too?

Depends on the type of waiver they used - unconditional release, irrevocable outright or revocable. I'd guess the middle option so they could send him to AAA to continue working on things. Reds claimed hm tho so off he went

No more GuasCanMan.

All pitches, fastball.

Good look in that band box, I am glad not to watch you anymore.

HulaVol is very, very pleased with this.
I’d rather see just about anyone starting a game on this team rather than Kevin at this point.
We need to be getting as far away from mediocrity as is possible.
This moves in that direction.

Honestly it is amazing how good this team is considering how horrible the pitching has been compared to last year.
Folty from all star to optioned down
Gausman from 3/4 to waivers
None of the young non-soroka guys have stuck
Newk to the pen
Carle, winkler, and minter have been bad

Soroka Julio Jackson and Tomlin are our pitching bright spots?

Anderson May come up soon and start a playoff game
