GDT: 08/04 Braves @ Cubs: Return to Maximum Effort

Lemme ask you fellas a question -
I know y’all are smarter than me -
Let’s say you are AA and our FO think tank -
You run Fried through the gauntlet of medicals and MRIs and etc - he is all clear……
You know where this is going -

Do you risk greatly screwing up our window by extending him for the fortune he will command ?

Or do you let him walk next winter with hopefully two shiney new ‘23 and ‘24 WS rings?

He's 29 now, turns 30 in January, will be 31 as a FA, so a new deal would take him to his age 35-37 seasons. Eh, that's tough. Think best course of action is play out the next 2 years and hope some of our prospects like AJSS, Waldrep, Schellenbech, Murphy, Ritchie, Hackenberg, and Kuehler are ready by then.

If we were to sign him, i'd want a 3 year deal, but his reps would no doubt want 5+ on a new deal.

If the club wins two rings, Fried can go chase the money. Getting three rings out of his tenure would be enough. Just don't see AA breaking the bank for a starting pitcher. Too much volatility.

Yeah, they were real loud yesterday when we were scoring all those runs.

Oh, wait, those were Braves fans taking over their park.

The Cubs fans were very passionate as well. Watch the highlights of th3 4th inning. Every time there was a homer or big hit, the Cubs fans behind the plate would throw their hands up in emotion.

does anyone have our record in games by starter this year? Be curious to see the impact of games started by our quad A starters. Offense has been so good, not sure how much of a difference it has made, but wondering had it been Fried vs those others if we’d actually have been on track to have a shot to break all time wins record

Dont have the time to go back and look. But I remember how badly Minter was going early on in the season. He has 5 losses and most of them were in that first month.

If Fried would do a short term high AAV contract (say 3/130) I'm sure AA would be all over that. No way Fried does that though unless he gets hurt again.

Fried isn't signing an extension unless it is for his number. Pretty sure he follows Freeman and Swanson out the door when his contract is over. And that is okay. AA always makes something work.

I happen to have this data!

Strider: 18-4
Elder: 15-6
Morton: 11-10
Fried: 4-2
Wright: 3-2

Shuster: 5-4
Dodd: 4-1
Soroka: 4-1
Smith-Shawver: 3-1
Allard: 1-2
Chirinos: 2-0
Wi?: 0-1 (dont know this guy's name - what is marked on my sheet)
Luetge?: 0-1
McHugh: 0-1
Chavez: 0-1

Projected Starters: 51-24
AAAA Shuttle: 19-10
Openers: 0-3

All of this shows me that our offense is incredible.

Light rain could hang around for a little to start todays game. Hard to say if its heavy enough to delay the game but the tarp is on the field. Should be all the way out in about 1-2 hours

Braves pitching ranks...
Era - 4th
FIP - 6th
fWAR - 4th

Considering the injuries, our pitching is incredible too

This tells me Chirinos should be starting any must win games

Wi is Allan Winans

Rodon got 6/162 and he wasn't nearly as dominant or healthy over his career as Fried has been. Fried and his agent likely don't blink for less than 7/170.

If that’s what he’s asking for then he won’t be a Brave.
