GDT 10/12/22: Braves vs Philthies - NLDS Game 2

Morton has been pretty good Vs rhh this season, and the Phillies have a lot of rhh. Looking over Morton vs individual Phillies, and Harper and schwarber have owned him with bohm being the only rhh that's fared well

Bowman seems to think that the Braves go Morton in game 3 which would I be a damn shame

If you don't go to Morton in game 3 when there's room for error, when do you go to him? Why even have him on the playoff roster at that point?

If the Braves aren’t set on bringing Fried back for game 4 if they’re down 2-1, then you pretty much have to pitch Morton in game 3 and then Strider in game 4. You can’t potentially have Morton pitching with us facing elimination if you can help it.

In a perfect world...
Morton for 4 (we have lead or tie)
Lee for 1
Mchugh for 1
Iglesias/minter for 1
Iglesias/minter for 1
Jansen for 1

I think Kenley Jansen deserves a little love. Since his back-to-back two-run outings on August 27 and 31, he’s gone 16.1 innings and allowed four runs, given up 9 hits, walked four and struck out 21. He’s back.

Moylan made a great point that both Wright and Morton have fairly similar stuff and that it might be worth throwing a guy like Spencer tomorrow to keep the hitters from seeing the same thing. Just break it up and roll from there.

We're gonna have to use Morton in Philly. Game 3 or 4, i'm not sure it matters. Whoever is going Game 3, it's not Snitker's call. It'll be AA and the FO deciding what they think they want to do is best.

He just said because we gave him an extension, that might be why. There's nothing from anyone on who is going Game 3, this will be a FO decision whenever it's announced, today or before the game on Friday.

I hope Morton is yanked when it is appropriate. I don't remember him faring too well against Philly this year. Our FO and coaching staff needs to realize Morton is no longer a TOR pitcher.

He pitched well i think in a game at home, but in Philly, yeah he needs to have a short leash to keep the game in striking distance going up vs Nola.

Charlie vs Phillies overall in 2022...
6.75 era
1.97 whip

At Philadelphia 2022...
7.05 era
1.83 whip

I don't think we can start him in game 3.

To me seems like Strider is the way to go. I'm always a fan in playoffs of pitching our best pitchers sooner than later.

-Its a pivotal swing game, seems like you'd want your ace on the mound for that
-Pen will be fully rested, which should work well for a bullpen game if he can only go 4 innings
-If we are going to have a game that we know for a fact our starter may only go 4-5, I'd rather do it when pen is absolutely fresh
-Forward looking, this sets-up to get Strider an earlier start in NLCS if we make it
-Phillies have better pitcher tomorrow than game 4, i'd rather "play to win" and match it, than defensively save Strider

This reminds me way too much of Soroka going game three or Fried never getting a start in the series. I know this time it won't cost Strider an extra start, but wtf is it with us come playoff time deciding its best to either not start our best young pitchers or continue to not pitch them. Tomorrow is a swing game that will probably have the biggest % swing in who wins this series. Just don't comprehend saving a bullet to pitch a guy that has been awful in a pivotal swing game.

Sounds much better to me to go win game 3 and then in a clinching game be ready to give Morton 3 innings if he struggles, Collin can get 4th and 5th, Minter / Iggy can bridge 6th to 8th and than Jansen.

I hope we all remember this conversation in the offseason where we say we don't need X pitcher.

Seems like every year we try to lengthen the rotation and then we end up with bullpen games.
