I can't predict the future. I'm not calling Wright an Ace. But he is a guy that seems to universally be considered to have great stuff, despite not having a crazy velocity FB. He has real prospect pedigree. And he's controlled for a LONG time. That is an amazing asset. Plus you've got a team that has been in the post season for years trying to figure out who to start in game 3 or 4. Plus you have a team who has guys locked down at most major positions. So who are you trading him for?

correct. Even if Wright steps back next year and becomes a #4, he is still extremely valuable due to not even being in Arb yet. you keep guys like Wright when you are trying win. He contributions are extremely valuable at his price point. If he continues to pitch like this, then you could consider locking him up in a few years, but we already control him till 30 and who knows what AA will do with a 30+ year old pitcher. Fried will be the test I guess.
 
For real though… wondering if all the “Strider may not be ready for a full load” or “might just be there as an opener” has all just been a smoke screen

Strider said in an interview pre-NLDS that he has no concerns about being able to cover a number of innings due to the stamina he’s built up all season. He said if anything the month off has been good for his arm.

People thought trading Folty at the time was crazy too. I didnt suggest it at the time because I knew he would regress badly I said it because he was the closest to FA. I think we had 2 years of team control left.

I honestly would be surprised by anything Wright does next year. I think theres an equal chance he gets better as there is he gets much worse. I dont really watch baseball too much anymore so I cant suggest anything but good young starters with years of team control are the most valuable currency in baseball. All the reasons peoplenll list aboit keeping him are why other teams would offer a lot for him as well.
