GDT 10/17/21: Braves vs Dodgers - NLCS Game 2

“ His vaccination status is unknown, but according to protocol, if he is vaccinated and asymptomatic and tests negative, he could be back after Game 2 of this series; if not, he must complete at least a 10-day quarantine, which would push his return to Game 5 at the earliest.”

Perhaps he isn’t vaccinated?

David O’Brien mentioned on his Saturday podcast offhandedly that Soler continues to test positive and that no one in the Braves front office thinks it’s likely he plays in the NLCS.

Day off discussion, how would you plan Game 4 opener or depends how much length you get out of Charlie on Tuesday? Saw from bowman, Braves may save Minter/Ynoa from Game 3 because of that.

Worry about game 4 when we get to game 4. If we need to use Minter in a close game 3, then I’m doing that. The Braves have plenty of arms capable of throwing bulk innings (Chavez, Smyley, Ynoa).

Yeah, the bullpen is surprisingly deep. Chavez, Smyly/Ynoa if you need length, with Webb, Minter, Martin, Matzek, Jackson, Smith. Certainly have enough arms to cover a BP game. I think the plan would hopefully be 6 from Charlie then Luke, Matzek, Smith for the last 3 innings. But obviously gonna depend how the game ends up going.

After only throwing 50 or so pitches, Anderson could theoretically pitch in game 4. It would not be an ideal situation and i'd probably only do that if we are up 3-0 in the series.

Start Minter to face Seager in the 1st. Depending on how the Dodgers stack their lineup, use Ynoa or Smyly as the bulk guy.

If Roberts unwinds the platoons in the early innings, shift to whichever of Smyly or Ynoa didn't pitch second.

Let Ynoa/Smyly face 15-20 batters depending on what moves Roberts make, then use the BP normally from there on out.

Dodgers dont really platoon that much though. Will Smith, Betts, Seager, both Turners are in both RH/LH, only real platoons is Beli/Lux and Pollock/Taylor.

Interesting. I had the opposite thought- if we are up 3-0 in the series, I'd be holding Ian back to ensure that we have full rest Fried-Anderson-Morton for the final three games. Piggyback Ynoa-Smyly and force the Dodgers to manage for their lives for four straight games while we're setting up our horses on full rest. Throwing Anderson on two days rest seems like something you do if you're in must win mode, not if you're up 3-0.

Perhaps he isn’t vaccinated?

It’s been multiply reported elsewhere that he is vaccinated. Still doesn’t mean he isn’t an asymptomatic carrier.

I guess he keeps testing positive, so nothing else really matters after that.

Even if he is cleared for the WS he will be coming off something like 2 weeks without taking a real PA. He might not be useful in the WS even if cleared.

Totally agree. Up 3-0 save Anderson cause you got Fried coming up game 5 on full rest.

Pushing wrong buttons lately. Agreeing with McCanns post.
