GDT 10/2/22: Braves vs Mutts - The Deciding Game

They mute the crowd for more on field noises, and Eduardo isn't that great in the booth. Whoever that was chiming in from the third chair (That sounded like he was at home, instead of at the game) was brutal

They didn't show any excitement at all for either team. Just kinda flat.

That was former Met David Cone.

Mets and September collapses to the Braves is the most predictable thing on Earth.

They had the 6th best record in baseball since June. I wouldnt even call it a collapse. Braves have been playing at like a 115 win pace since June. They lost the divison going 6-8 vs the A's, Marlins, Cubs and Pirates/Nats. I guess that evens out with all the close wins they got early in the year?

Not to bring the thread down but in my mind, it all comes down to Turner. If he is set on this side of country then Dansby ends up joining Freddie in LA. I feel like he would have already re-signed if it were going to be easy. This is one I hope I'm wrong on, but it's my hunch.

Or Dansby wants to test free agency, who knows. I dont know if AA will go to the years/dollars it will take to get Turner but if he wants to stay in the South, bring him home.

This was definite a September collapse. Braves had less than a 10% chance to win the division in August after the 5 game series. Since that time the Mets have been thoroughly average (much of those games against the easiest schedule in baseball).

Throw all that to the side, being swept in the biggest series of the year when you only needed to win one game. Woof.

With two all time great pitchers on the mound to start.

Brutal - Met fans in the office are dejected to a level I don't think I've ever seen.

This year was supposed to be different for them.

They were bad in September to be sure, but they're about to win 100 games. September is where they lost the division, and if you wanna call it a collapse, that's fine. Certainly didnt see the Braves sweeping given the matchups but thats why they play the games.

This was probably the year for them. They have a ton of free agents after this year, and while Cohen has unlimited money, i'd still imagine there's a limit he'd go to. I dont know if he wants a 300-400+ million payroll lol.

I know it won’t happen but if we could somehow afford Dansby, a decent LF (maybe try Grissom out there), and add Diaz to the bullpen we’d be even more unstoppable next year. The payroll is already high but if they wanted to really make a statement then brining in Diaz would be it. Getting rid of most of Ozuna money would help.

Don't forget they said to expect the Braves to have a top 5 payroll going forward. With the WS win last year, and the possibility of another NLCS run or better this season, the Braves are raking in the cash. So I fully expect them to do something this offseason that shocks all of us.

This is semantics, but you basically just argued my point. They were bad in September ergo a September collapse.

I agree the Mets had a great season that 99% of the time would have been enough. They pooped the bed though.

I wouldnt waste the funds on Diaz.

Really want Harris to hit another homer in the next 3 games to get to 20/20. Would be the 5th rookie to do it in his first season and 10th 21 years or younger to do it.

I’m in my mid 30’s so I don’t have vivid memories of the Ted Turner Braves. My relationship to the Braves and ownership is trading away Millwood to save money, low balling Andres Gallaragha after his incredible comeback season, watching Sheffield and Drew walk in back to back off seasons, etc. etc., so seeing this team spend money with the same ownership/McGuirk still feels surreal.

It shouldn’t make any sense, but I think the DeGrom smoke is real. He wants to play close to home, he’s friends with D’Arnaud, and of course there is the Chipper connection.
