GDT #16, 4/18/14: Braves (Harang) @ Mets (Niese) 7:10 PM;Heyward out, Simmons LEADOFF

Here's something no one has thought about, they probably wouldn't do it, but I wonder if everyone stays healthy if the Braves would consider a 6-man starting rotation.

I suppose. Just not sure I want to use these guys in a relief role at all but something creative will have to be done. Harang will not have much value right now until he does this for another two months or so.

Harang's value will peak when someone needs a starting pitcher and doesn't want to trade the farm.

I think Zito's scenario seems more likely just so we aren't caught short in the pen. I think you also can stretch Julio/Minor/Santana out. No need to really limit there innings this year.

Fun game to be at, too bad it was ridiculously cold there. It's interesting how through the years, Mets fans always used to give me a hard time when I wear my Braves gear at Citi/Shea, and recently they just know they can't say anything.

My personal take on the the whole pitching situation is just to simply let it work itself out. There's plenty of time to do so and you never know when an injury will take place. I like the bullpen right now and I think Hale (fingers crossed) will be a good addition to it once Mike is back into the rotation.

Floyd is a tricky situation to have. I want him in the rotation, I like his stuff, I like his track record in a hitters park while also in the AL and I just think he will do well for us. I think a six-man rotation is a good solution because I also think that it would be hard to take someone like Wood out of the rotation right now. The guy has been one of the best pitchers in all of the baseball through the first few weeks.

So, let it play out and see what we have. If we must, I'd love to see Wood limit some innings in the BP, but I want him in the rotation as much as possible.

I think people are getting their expectations raised because of Harang's great start. Floyd has really never been a solid pitcher. Between these two bum signings I think one of them will pitch like he always has. I honestly don't expect Floyd to offer much except some long relief appearances.

In what world has Floyd not been a solid starting pitcher?

What is your reasoning for this?

Don't worry, one of our pitchers will have a few bad starts and declare himself the bullpen man. Not saying that's a bad thing.. But it is fairly inevitable.

Who would've thought we'd have THIS problem at this point? Gotta love baseball. Credit Wren for this signing and the Sheets signing a few years ago.. Stealing us wins early in the year.

I also think that BJ will break out of his year + long malaise. Wren is a great GM. So happy to have him. Just have to keep that pitching pipeline flowing.

I hate to say this, but I actually miss when the Mets were our biggest challengers in the division.

Those were some fun packed times. Back in those days they seemed more of a threat than Washington, and they could back up their talk.

Nationals are just a bunch of whiny girls that are playing way in over their heads. The Mets weren't actually afraid of us and could spar with us.

I still have little confidence in BJ. He's taking more pitches, which is GREAT. But he is still not hitting the ball with any authority.

No he isn't but I think he needs to break it down completely and then rebuild it. It will come.

I wouldnt trade him.

Currently, we only have 7 SP options.

But it's a very, very difficult situation.

The fact BJ is making more contact and k'ing less is a 100% improvement. Kudos to Fredi for sticking with him in the 2 spot and letting him find confidence again.

Justing, CJ, Uggla, Simmons are all better options

Simmons is currently leading off ( may change tonight). Justin needs to be driving in runs like he has been in the 5th spot. CJ I could see in the future if BJ continues to struggle but he has no speed. That said BJ is coming off a productive 8 games. Since talking with Chipper he has had a slash line of 273/368/424 - 793. Let's keep him there and see what happens. If he reverts back to extreme suckitude then sure move him down. But as of now he's doing ok there.
