GDT #19 4/21/14: Marlins (Koehler) @ Braves (Teheran), 7:10

In retrospect, the game threads years ago were dominated by older (age wise) veterans whom no longer really post anymore. MikeAdams, TexasLeaguer, rniki (she lurks now), gr8, and others.

We have a younger crowd here, there's positives and negatives. I think in a few years a lot of the younger guys in their 20's here will mellow up and it won't be so chaotic. I don't think niners can be this negative forever.
I am older than you. Go to sleep now boy.

True. You even saw it on scout the past few years anyway with newer people dominating the game threads. Hell I feel old saying that now since 6 or so years ago I was one of those 'chaotic' posters.

Just life. Just think, MikeAdams was reading peak-a-boo zoo to his 3 year old during the Tim Hudson trade saga when we were staying up at 4 am waiting for Bill Shanks to inform us on any news and we were watching Fresh Prince of Bel Air on Nick @ Nite doing play by play. That kid is now 13 years old.

gr8 now coaches his kid's baseball travel team in addition to work.

And yes, you were certainly one of those chaotic posters, I remember people used to get annoyed by you lol. Now I consider you a mellowed season vet, which I have no doubts most of the guys on here will become down the line.

As a defender, hitter, or overall?

Better question, where would you rank him among RF'ers, in the top 10?

But to your question.

Defender, absolutely, arguably the best RF'er for defense.

He's not an elite hitter but hardly below average.

Overall, he's one of the top 10 RF'ers in the game.

Defender? Definitely. Hitter? He's above average. Overall? Absolutely.

A quick list of top right fielders to me. I may have forgotten someone, but it's a quick list.

Jose Bautista, Ryan Braun, Jay Bruce, Hunter Pence, Giancarlo Stanton, Jayson Werth, Torii Hunter, and Yaiel Puig were arguably the best last season. Throw in Carlos Beltran and Michael Cuddyer perhaps Nelson Cruz. This was just based off hitting.

As an overall player I think Jason is better than Hunter, Beltran, Cruz, and potentially Werth. Cuddyer is tough because of the Coors Field effect. Stanton, Braun, and Puig are clearly better in my eyes. I would agree that Jason is in the top 4-7 of right fielders as an overall player. With 30 starting players he's ahead of a good percentage.

Was conjuring up a response and happened to answer your question as well.

Since coming up in 2010 only Bautista has a higher WAR then Heyward for right fielders. Going off the last 2 years Heyward tops the list. Of course Braun is new to right this year so I would definitely put him at #1. Stanton is close as he's a hell of a hitter but is a poor base runner and nowhere near Heyward as a fielder. Puig I am going to have to see more of. He makes a ton of base running mistakes and I don't think he's anywhere close to being as good as he was last year since he had a 383 BABIP which will make anyone seem like a superstar.

Overall I think it's Braun and Heyward/Stanton fighting for #2.

I love Heyward, i'd take Stanton over him despite Heyward being a much better defensive player.

Stanton is insane at the plate.

Its also ironic looking back at the days when AA and goldfly were considered the negative headaches on the board. Now I consider both of them seasoned vets, and wouldn't ask them to change much. Although goldfly probably has a worse temper than AA, but AA has a shorter fuse at times.

Slow down there cowboy. I'm only 33. Appreciate the sentiment though. Now back to lurking. You guys are too much for me.

I know you weren't that old... you were years in advanced for your age maturity wise. I don't think ANYBODY ever got into it with you or had a problem with you as a mod. :Alone:

I'd still sign Heyward long term but I wouldn't give him what he probably thinks he is worth and what WAR says he is worth.

Gattis on his first walk-off HR:

"I was pretending what I am going to do whenever I round the bases," Gattis said. "I always like to imagine, like in the Minor Leagues I imagined myself jogging around the bases. Same big dumb animal, I'm just running around the bases in the big leagues instead of the Minors."

Love it.

Also, I have a confession. I thought that Chip's play on Arquimedes was pretty clever.
