GDT 2/25 Braves at Nats

I was vehemently against courting Moustakas at the beginning of the off-season. But, even in a weak market for FAs, his market seems particularly weak; if the Braves can take advantage of that to the tune of a team-friendly deal, it now seems like it’d be prudent, and worth losing the fourth-round pick. Even if Riley does thethe out this year, it’ll be a good problem to have in advance of 2019.

Team friendly is the key. Not back-loaded (which does not necessarily translate to team friendly). Team-friendly as in cheap. The going rate for a win this off-season is 8M. I am ok with signing him for an AAV that translates to 5-6M per expected win. Could be back-loaded on those terms.

Over the next four years I would project his production at 2.5, 2, 2 and 1.5 wins respectively. This means 2 year deal AAV of 12M. 3 year deal AAV of 11M. I wouldn't go beyond 3 years. But I would be ok with an option for a fourth year at about 8M (with a 1M payout). If those terms are not acceptable to him and his agent, thank them for their time and wish them the best.

Kazmir was hitting 87 mph but ended with a few 89 mph fastballs and one 88 mph.

Can you reasonably think that someone coming off kazmir’s injuries would not be going all out first time out?

Didn’t see him but seems like he was throwing harder than that before hip ended his season.

Same here. He is the worst or one of the worst anyone could pick.

I have been advocating getting rid of him for since the day Snitckers made him PC. His record over 20 plus years shows only 1 good season. He should have stayed in college ball. Fired by Tigers in '08. Leyland saw the real problem for Tigers pitching.

California Angels (1993-96)
Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2004-05), also minor league coordinator (1997-2003)
Detroit Tigers (2006-08)
Cleveland Indians (2009)
Gulf Coast League Phillies (2010)
University of South Florida (2011)
Miami Marlins (2013-15)
Atlanta Braves (2017), also minor league coordinator immediately after exiting Miami.

Hasn't helped a single pitching staff ever. I will stay positive, but until he is gone, I honestly don't think our pitching will be good enough to win.

Every single Braves pitcher with a MLB track record had a worse BB rate in 2017 than 2016. That is amazingly unlikely to happen out of sheer bad luck.

I don't have my research anymore, but if I remember correctly every single pitching staff he inherited increased the BB% his first year and the ERA went up most of the time. I know just because he sucked in the minors and couldn't keep his walk rate below 7 per 9 innings shouldn't matter as a coach.. but man he seems to only know how to walk guys or teach how to walks guys.

I know AA couldn't come in and just start firing guys.. but I bet Chuckie doesn't make it the whole season.

He doesn't seem like the right guy to have when we are supposedly counting on guys like Newk figuring out how to avoid walking so many batters.

Man Scherzer is good. It’s easy to lose perspective when all you see is the garbage the Braves have ran out there the last few years.

Watching the playoffs after watching the Braves all season was like watching a completely different game.

Future HOFer...most likely
