GDT -- 2/28/18-- Mets

For example, Rhame is a guy who was a PTBNL in some trade.

I hope Acuna plays in the televised game tomorrow.

Ravin in to throw the 9th

Retires 1st batter with called K, retires 2nd batter on called 3rd strike, gives up a single to RF, WP advances runner to 2nd, RBI single to RF ties the score. Gives up 2 run HR, now 6-4 Mets and I'm done.

Hey at least Pache is going to get an at bat now!

TV game tomorrow is the one at Detroit. That means we will be seeing the ST travel squad, while the everyday players play in the home game.

Certainly not great, but he is holding his own

I wasn’t listening/watching allard’s 2 appearances. Obviously the velocity has been discussed here a lot, but how has he looked other than that? The 3 Ks are obviously bad, but no hits looks nice... has he just been lucky with hard contact being caught or what?

He has also hit a batter. Allowing 4 free base runners in 3 IP is not good when you're a control LHP that throws 89.

With no video I can't say how he looked today, but here is how I described his first inning in his ST debut:

"Allard was very underwhelming, even more so than I gathered from the comments here. No control over an 89 fastball. Gave up a walk and a rocket to RF that was miraculously turned into 2 outs by a great play. Then a warning track fly ball to Gonzo to end the inning. It’s clear why he has tumbled down prospect lists."

I don't think he has done anything to excite anyone. Pure luck got him out of the first inning unscathed. That catch in RF by Avery is a play Markakis has 0% chance of making. If Gonzo hit his fly ball into the same wind that killed Acuna's fly out earlier in the week, it would have been a bomb under normal conditions.

Without the baseball gods smiling on him, Allard could have very easily given up 3+ runs in his debut.

According to the game log, here is how Allard's 2 innings went today:

Walk (den Dekker)
Line out to RF (Rosario)
Walk (Nimmo)
Fly out to CF (Lobaton)
Fly out to CF (Tebow)

HBP (Alonso)
K Swinging (Borenstein)
GIDP (Cecchini)

That's 1 out via grounder (well, 2 since it was a DP) in 3 IP. Another less than good sign for a LHP throwing 89.

The liner to RF was caught by Santana, who has great range. How great of a play was it?

Did the wind eat up those fly balls to CF too, or were they poorly hit cans of corn?

This is why I wish we had video.

I would still rate him as one of our better pitching prospects just off what he did in AA last year as a 19 year old.

Obviously behind Soroka, Gohara and Wright. But best of the rest imo.

I've always had him ranked behind those 3 guys, and I'm actually inclined to slot him behind Anderson as well. Maybe even behind Wentz.

He has looked extremely mediocre.

I have an idea. Let's have the most fragile pitcher in baseball go 3 innings in his ST debut.

this:

“I asked for another inning,” McCarthy said. “I hate the one, two-inning outings. Feels like you’re not getting anything accomplished. So getting a third inning was nice, to be able to get back out there after I was a little bit tired in the second. You can settle back in, get a little bit of stuff worked on.”

Allard has a chance. But with poor velocity he's going to have compensate with location, sequencing, and offspeed pitches. Not impossible but makes it that much harder.

I believe the Braves might have an attractive option on McCarthy in 2019.

This from Cot's

conditional club option for 2019 based on days spent on disabled list with a specific injury: $5M club option with more than 179 days on DL or $8M club option with 119-179 days

He missed most of 2015 (first year of the contract) and a chunk of 2016 recovering form TJ surgery.
