Great job overcoming bad managing by the Braves, I missed the 9th too as I had to go do something. Markakis made up for his 0-4 with that homer.

For the record, I think taking your best pitcher out of the game after 68 pitches with a big lead is pretty foolish as it brings players who aren’t nearly as good into the equation. Even if he isn’t as effective third time through.
I don’t think teams have that much bullpen depth in general.

Their pen didn't do the job. Interesting that they only have two lefty relievers. Neither of whom looked that good.

There are aberrant cases, and there are seemingly more teams moving in that direction, vis-à-vis their 25-man composition; but for now, for most rosters, I think you're right.

You need five or six relievers who are all really good at their role and you’re probably going to blow through them.
Given the profile is generally that these are failed starters ... you are choosing to intentionally expose yourself to what are probably some less favorable matchups along the way.
Nothing is new and clubs went away from this stuff for a reason.
The general case isn’t always the specific one.

Immeasurably, that's for sure.
To make it really work you need the long relievers that are good enough to go through a lineup once but not much after that. Those guys exist. Teams will figure a way to maximize the benefit from having their starters not go through a lineup a 3rd time just to get a quality start.

We’ve had deep pen strategies in mlb before and they’ve been successful when the talent was there.
But relievers are volatile and not so easy to assemble in numbers.
If this becomes the hot thing the cost of these guys is going to shoot up and it’s not going to be such an efficient strategy.
There is a reason why the game evolved to starters pitching deep.
But if this is the strategy arguably the Braves are set up as well as anyone with lots of in-house options who could be transitioned into swing roles.
I don’t see it being a revolution. Roster size also a limiting factor.
