GDT: 4/10/'15 - Atlanta Braves (Stults) vs. New York Mets, Fredi showing off again.

You need a balance. Going from one extreme to the other won't work.

Dont think anyone said have a team full of Juan Pierres, but having a lot of hitters who work counts, get lots of doubles, high OBP, etc isnt a bad thing if you mix it in with a couple power hitters to balance it out.

Sure. But you are describing the perfect offense that every team would want. In the real world it's much much harder to get such a team. And it would get very expensive very fast.

This season is going to be an interesting experiment in platooning. I've always been a fan of using platoons at one or two positions to cover weaknesses inexpensively. But it looks like we're going to have position sharing of one sort or another at 5 positions.

Really excited to have Cunniff on the team and he has looked great so far. I know its early, but I'm pretty optimistic about our bullpen once again.

Platoons used correctly is a great thing

I count 4.

CB, Simba, FF, Markakis are every-day for the most part.

3B, LF, CF, and 2B are platoons although i'd have Jace everyday but thats another story.

I think Pierzynski will catch a bit more than the typical backup. But yeah CB will get most of the games.

I just wonder what the Braves through process is. We all know they have an eye towards 2017 with some hope for 2016. Do they sell even if they are in a good situatino come September? Can they turn down a top 100 prospect for either of thoes relievers? Its going to be fascinating.

I really believe the Kimbrel trade changed everything and would not have occurred w/o Mel being involved. I don't think it was planned and gives us a new set of parameters for the budget this year should they choose to use them. You can't have a fire sale at the deadline if this continues. These guys look like they have bought into what Hart and Co. are selling and they are responding. You can't hang them out like that if they are contending in July. We get to the deadline and we have a wc spot and plus or minus five in the East and you can help them w/o messing with the future you have to do it.

What do you do if the Braves are in a wild card hunt? How can you trade him if he is still dominating? You might have to first talk with him to see if he would sign a team friendly extension. He isn't exactly old.

the answer to this is you trade him because that what if scenario isn't going to happen. This team still isn't very good.

You aren't getting a top 100 prospect for those guys. Come on Thethe.

Not saying it's likely but never say never. These are proven closers

Proven closers on for two months only like Jim Johnson don't get top prospects. We could get a nice lottery ticket though. A player like the OF we got from the Padres is a fine player to add in a trade for any of the relievers.

Minor is the wild card. If he comes back and pitches lights out then I could buy him getting us a fringe 100 prospect.

Then why wouldn't another team sign him for more than 1/3 or 1/1.6? Teams aren't like some fans on this board and flip flop on a limited sample. No team is going from not willing to pay 2 million for a closer to trading a top 100 prospect for him in a manner of 3-4 months.
