If he gets it going this year, I wouldn't call it nothing. We'll have a young player ready to go next season.
Unless he becomes a perpetual all-star, the experience he would get this year is more valuable than the extra year of control will be in six years. JMHO

I disagree, I'd give him the experience and enough time to show a bit but not keep him up long enough to lose the extra year.

I don't think the extra year for a player like Mallex is going to prove to be that valuable.
At some point these guys need to take their lumps to get ready when we're supposedly gonna be good again.
At the cost of an extra year, and given the Braves compete lack of charisma this year, I think it'd be worth it to have at least one bonafide up-and-coming star for fans to point to as a tangible ray of hope out of the morass we're currently in.
Absent that (if he still needs a lot more seasoning) then send him down and save the year.
We are not really too far apart. I think it would just take another few weeks in the minors to keep him from being a Super2. I am okay if that happens, but Inciarte is a much more valuable player this year because he played in the Majors last year. I want Mallex to get that experience in hopes that he will be better next year.
