GDT: 4/18 Braves @ Padres: Strider after getting chewed out

Our +33 run differential is tied with the Brewers for the third best in the game. Rays are way out in front and the Rangers are just ahead at +34.

Mets are the only other NL East team with a positive run differential with +9.
 
Ozzie getting hot. You'd like to see more walks obviously, but he's looking much better the last week or so.
 
Yates' fastball velocity is 94.1, which is career high. He was 93.5-94.0 during his dominant run.

If he finds it again, our pen is gonna be unfair assuming mchugh and iglesias come back strong
 
So when Soroka is ready how do the Braves handle it.

Elder gets sent down or to the pen-- not sure you want a guy who has shown success in the pen.
Soroka to the pen-- he could be our Britton, but BP put stress on a fragile body.. plus he is ace level when right
Morton to pen-- I love this idea personally, but I doubt Morton wants to do that. I think I read somewhere that he goes home after his start to be with family for a few days.
6 man rotation-- another great idea, but does that put too much stress on the pen since Elder/Strider/Morton/and probably Soroka can't go deep into games. You would be one short in the pen with a 6 man rotation
piggy back guys -- I don't think anyone has tried this, and not sure how it affects arms, but guys going for 40-50 pitches, then your piggy back comes in. I doubt any starter would want to do that since that is not what they are used to, but I love the idea of Strider coming in after Elder.. Or Soroka after Morton... This is very off the wall, not going to happen idea.

Usually these things find a way to work themselves out, but I would probably bet Elder gets optioned over Elder to the pen if everyone is healthy.

I would go to a 6-man rotation for a few turns through to see how it's working. The likelihood is that during that period of time, somebody has to go to the IL or skip a couple starts and it works itself out for a period of time. And if the 6-man rotation isn't working out and everyone is healthy, then you send the guy performing worst to the pen or down to AAA. That's how I would do it.

Maybe Wright is struggling, or Elder loses it, or Soroka isn't ready. To your point, it will likely work itself out.

All this said, I think Elder is just odd man out. He either goes to pen or AAA if everyone is performing and healthy.. You don't block Soroka with Elder... there is no world that makes sense.

Strider tied for 5th in fWAR at 0.8. Also leads the world in K's
 
A 6 man rotation seems to be the ideal scenario and let Freid tell you if he wants to stay on a 5 day rotation or 6....It allows more rest for your older starter in Morton, and for your injury risks in Strider, Wright, Soroka. As for Elder, he has looked great since the call up, but against mainly bad lineups, Cardinals have a decent lineup but it was slumping.

I'd like to see Elder continue to grow at the MLB level as he has the stuff.
