GDT 4/23 Max and the Sunday Slump Busters!!!

Frustrating weekend, but nobody who is a Braves fan should panic. All three games could have been won. Braves led in every game. It would be a whole other thing if the Astros won each game by five or six runs and lit up the Atlanta starters. What we’re dealing with is the one thing that can derail a good team and it’s injuries. The good news there is that none of the injuries are considered long term, although the concussion for T D’A does bear watching. Tough weekend, but that’s baseball sometimes. Go get the Marlins.

Agree for the most part. The pen is a genuine concern, however. Minter was supposed to be one of the anchors. Bad games happen, but he needs to straighten himself out fast. Otherwise it‘s looking quite thin even when Iglesias returns.

2 guys maybe to keep an eye on in Gwinnett...

Solak 2-4
.304 BA .869 ops
Career .345 wOBA and 119 wrc+ vs lhp

Shewmake 2-4, 2 SB
Now hitting .278 with .793 ops
With Grissom's bad glove, he could be an option now that he's hitting

Solak and Hilliard in a LF platoon might be the best thing we can do for now.

Shewmake has 8 SBs in 16 games. I didn't realize he had that kind of speed.

The pen will get better when McHugh and Iglesias both return, but I agree on some concerns about Minter. He did not have a good series. It seems he does better in middle relief and set up as opposed to closer, but we need him while Iglesias is out.

I just want a guy at short who can go 2 games without making an error

Issue is, those guys were/are FAs. There was zero reason to extend Olson when we did.

The deal for Olson made sense in the immediate context, but I have my doubts the extension is going to wear well.

msstate asked about a shortstop. Kiner-Falefa is the third-string (fourth-string if you count Cabrera) SS for the Yankees right now. Not much of a hitter but a solid glove guy.

Olson could end up being real bad real fast if these swinging strike trends don't reverse themselves quickly.

May need to check in on him

Personally, I will always regret the Freeman/Olson deal. Freddie being my favorite Brave or this generation obviously has me biased.

But with what we gave up in prospects, plus the extension, i'd have much rather have paid Freeman what he wanted. Who knows? Maybe we could have used the prospects to get someone else, like Reynolds...

Doesn't matter now. Hope AIDs can fix his swing quick....with as long as that swing is, he is always going to be prone to slumps and tons of strikeouts.
