GDT: 4/8/'15 - Atlanta Braves (Shelby) @ Miami Marlins (Koehler), Fredi showing off.

From the sound of this place a few weeks ago, I bet so.

All we heard was how they ruined this great team and that we were going to suck forever. I think we see the path now. Team is going to be built on what it was always built on and that is pitching. But now we are going to have guys that will make contact and not swing and miss often.

The team is not going to be good until we get some professional hitters in the lineup... And I don't mean Garret Anderson

Yes, indeed. We haven't had a proper rivalry with them in years and it still burns me up to lose to the joke-ass Mets.

You know what's weird about this? Our "rivalry" with the Mets was really only one season: 1999. And it was great fun. But there was no real chase in 2000, they were mostly mediocre in 2001 before making a little run at the end of the season that we snuffed out and then the franchise collapsed after the big pre-2002 off-season. We had faded once they assembled the Wright/Reyes/Beltran core, and they were smothered by Madoff once we ascended again.

And yet it still feels as though there's some deep-seated, well-founded animus between the two teams.

Eventually EYJ/CJ/whoever is in LF is going to be replaced by more talented players. Nobody expects the offense to be good this year. But, their pitching is going to carry the team to more wins than most predicted this year.

Well that actually has to happen before we start pre-ordering our world series 2017 tickets. I don't see much talent on the FA market except the two we shipped out of town. We've proven we're unwilling to spend - although that could change after the Kimbrel trade

Agreed that the spending has to happen. For now, I'm fine with high contact/doubles hitters.

Again, nobody thinks this team is all of a sudden a playoff team. I just kept hearing about the sky was falling and the Braves would suck forever. Thats clearly not the case as long as the starting pitching remains as strong as it is now.

It was a fun series, which I expected us to lose coming into the season. I'm just going to enjoy being 3-0 today.

Same here. I think the pitching will be fine. Bullpen will be shakier than in recent years, but I like the rotation provided it stays healthy.

Offense will be the problem. You can do more things with this line-up, but managerial maneuvers only help at the margins. We're going to have to scrape runs together.

I think its clear the Braves are going to struggle with lefties. I'd be surprised if we won more than 20% of the games against a lefty starting pitcher.

A strict platoon with Gomes and CJ would help that a lot.

And, while I don't agree with the soft platoon, I'm pleased to see the bench get some playing time in the first three games. One of Fredi's biggest weaknesses so far has been running the starters out too long without rest and not getting the bench consistent playing time. I hope it's a sign of things to come.

I like the pen. I'm not expecting the two young guys to go the whole year w/o giving up runs. And I know pitchers can be ahead of hitters early.

But those young guys seem to have good stuff. I like Johnson and Grille. Availan who knows. But that can be a good pen. And it's the braves so we know they have guys that can bring up later in the year.

This is a team that could sell off caispo (sp?) and CJ (please lord) and get better with Peterson over there and Peraza at 2B. There's a chance they could sell off the 4th and/or 5th starters and get better latter in the year if we have a healthy minor or get some improvement from Folty/ManBan.

At the end of the year we have some power arms in Hursh, Viz, guy we are stashing on the DL from the Rockies. We could flip Johnson and Grillie.

My dream is we are around 500. We flip ALL of those vets. And then we get some positive play from some combo of Minor, Folty, Peraza, ManBan, Cuban noodle arm, Hursh, Viz (i know steriods, but still has stuff), somebody we get in the trades for all of those vets.

Yes, with Gosselin at second. EY actually hits lefties better for his career and Maybin doesn't have good numbers at all vs lefties.

Vs lefties....just try sh!t.
Bat FF first. Pitcher 8th. Hot hand. CJ hitting 3rd. Everyone take 2 strikes and see if they'll walk us.

Being around .500 would be a Mukaki Rebuild failure, in my opinion. Either we are good enough for the playoffs somehow, or we lose 90 games to get a good draft pick.
