GDT 5/12- Mother’s Little Elder

3rd in hitting. MLB must have replaced baseballs with a sponge this season.

Yeah. The baseball changing all the time is a huge problem. I doubt it's intentional. Just horrible QA process. Olson has been effected the most imo on the team.

Any non closer reliever is going to have stats like that. Blow a lead in the 8th and its a blown save.

Correct
Tricky part is we have stats in save situations. But even then not all of them are in the 9th.

I can understand not trusting Minter though. His career ERA in the 9th inning is much higher than in any other role. But that still suffers a bit from sampling as he only has 89 IP in the 9th inning. But he has better stats in save situations by a hair vs. non-save situations.

Honestly I don't tend to buy into a player not having it for a closer. There are elite closers, but most of that is because they have the best execution of their stuff. I think Minter's stuff just isn't really that great.

Use games not innings. His last two blown saves he technically didn’t pitch any part of an inning since he didn’t record an out.

There is one thing in Baseball that annoys me more that twit.. it is the term closer.. god I hate that word. I don't get it, I really don't. Normally (not the Braves case) your 'closer' is the best reliever on the staff.. But the 9th inning isn't always against the best part of the lineup.. so why in gods name would you not want your best guy available facing the best part of the opposing teams lineup. And to go a bit further.. say 2 men on and 2 out in the 7th inning and up by 1..with the 3 or 4 hitter up.. why would you not want the best possible guy for that situation.

I get the 'guys want to get paid' But don't most GM look at Xfip or Xwoba.. saves shouldn't get a player one extra penny really.
I also get pitchers like to know there roles.. but for me to believe that, then I also must believe that a hitter performs better in a particular spot in the lineup.. and I just can't.
