What the hell was Lucas Sims doing back in the big leagues? Can't we agree that there are probably 10 pitchers who are more deserving at this stage?

Going to happen when you game the 10-Day DL - neither Fried or Wisler can come back up for 10 days after being sent down unless they're replacing an injured player, and cutting Bautista doesn't qualify. Won't be as much chance he has to be used much once Anibal's ready to go again.

It is possible. We have enough high end arms in the minors to fill out a VERY capable bullpen. AA may not want to tread with the unproven, but he could if he chose to...

I can see a scenario where Fried/Allard are in the pen come late August so they are eligible for the playoff roster. The pen could end up being loaded by then.

I think if you are a contending team, you approach the trade deadline assuming that your depth will be tested by injuries, slumps etc. So you try to fill to protect yourself against some of these scenarios. You don't break the bank to do that, but on a judicious basis you add that extra infielder or that extra bullpen arm if those are areas you are a bit thin or vulnerable.
