GDT 5/23/25: Braves vs Padres - The Return of Acuna

The Braves had been playing great for well over a month. Hopefully they can put this shit week behind them quickly.
Yeah. This recent skid has been disheartening, but stretches like this happen in baseball. Unfortunately, we got ourselves so far behind the 8-ball that these little dips are magnified.

Alex is going to have some pressure on him come trade deadline time. Which is now just a bit more than two months away. That sounds like a lot of time, but it’s really not
AA backed himself into a corner. What trade will he make that won't gut an already mediocre farm system? That bargain bin shyt he pulled off this year certainly helped the ledger, but negative returns for the Braves on the field. Even got rid of a pitcher performing well for the stinking Mets. Egregious.

This team is bringing back vibes of ineptness I've not seen since before JS.

Braves are 4.5 out of 3rd WC and 8.0 out of 1st place in east. This year could be a punt at the deadline.

This may be a good thing to see happening bc it will open eyes to the cracks that need to be filled. Snit is done after the year regardless so just let him finish it.

I just don't understand why Eli turned around. He was safe at third. He would have been doubled off had he went back. Clearly. Why would anyone do that?
This. He saw the ball off the bat and had to know there‘s no chance in hell he has enough time to get back to 2B.
Hard to blame anyone, really. Certainly not the coach, but also not Eli. It’s not like he wasn’t hustling, or ignored the coach. Just an honest, human mistake. Everyone gets a brain cramp from time to time, and his just came at an unfortunate moment.

Bigger problem isn’t Eli or the pen. It’s that whoever said jokingly on the first page that Acuna‘s homer would be all the offense, turned out to be correct.

Awful loss to start a brutal stretch between now and June 29. Profar is, ironically, expected back the 1st game after that stretch on July 1.

This is a really tough stretch, and considering the braves are 8-13 vs teams with winning records, they may be out of it by the break.

Might have been thinking Acuna would be taking his first pitch back. Just tried a get me over fastball to steal a strike and Acuna crushd it.
A lot of pitchers just try to throw strikes early. Traditionally the leadoff hitter is a speed guy with little power so there is less risk. Thats why I like Acuna hitting leadoff. Makes the pitcher throw under stress from pitch 1. No chance to settle in before the power hitters come up.

If you manage like twit. Then the leadoff hitter was that because he is stupid. Now a days your lead off hitter should be the best hitter who can get on base.

Sort of like saying a guy is a closer because 1970 happened.

Bogus.. the Braves are extremely all in on this contention window. We only have 4 years of Acuna left. I’m not wasting one of those 4 years because we protect the ego of a worthless manager who is clearly checked out.

Exactly. I will never understand why the majority of this fanbase feels we owe snit anything.

I don't want to either and still thinks the team turns it around and makes the playoffs but AA doubled down on Snit a couple of days ago so he isn't going anywhere till the season is over.
