GDT 5/24/25: Braves vs. Padres - Drake in the 2 hole

There's certainly no in-house options. We need to find a player in a trade. Well, we do if Ozzie and Harris aren't gonna hit. If they hit, Allen is fine

Ozzie has always been up and down and Harris has started slow and had good second halves several years in a row. Literally everyteam has some shitty bats in the lineup. Cubs have the most runs scored. I look up most recent box score. Starting 1B .588 OPS, starting 3B .672 OPS, LF .709 OPS.

Allen is 16th in WAR for SS. Right ahead of Bogarts/Bichette and right behind Gunnar Henderson. And even replacing him with a good bat we still need quality defense from the position. Albies and Harris are hitting the same or worse without the elite defense. No sense in replacing Allen.
I understand Allen's value pretty clearly as I've talked about his value numerous times this year already, thanks... Albies and Harris are making quite a bit more money which is harder to justify replacing... I feel like the best bet is to upgrade the bullpen and try to upgrade LF.

That was actually a really good offensive showing against a quality opponent. Balanced attack, a couple of homers, but also other key hits. Constant pressure, not relying on one big inning. Some BABIP luck, but also some bullets for outs. Really should have had more than 7 runs.

This team is so close. If they can find consistency, they'll take off. I really believe it. But we need to see it, and soon, because the Phillies are rolling and the Mets aren't going anywhere

Maybe we should try Ozzie ninth ahead of Ronald. But that would only work if he stopped getting himself out consistently.
I‘m afraid Ozzie is done as an offensive contributor. You see it not so much in the poor ABs where he gets himself out (he‘s always been prone to that), but in the ABs when he actually gets a pitch to hit and puts good wood on it…and the ball still goes nowhere. He‘s never been a big EV hitter, but nowadays it seems physically impossible for him to hit triple digits.

Edit: I see that his average EV is actually right in line with his career average. But it sure does not feel that way. His ball doesn‘t carry at all.

Off topic, but it is absolutely remarkable how Ozuna turned his career back around. I was just looking at his stat card and forgot just how horrendous he was in 2021 and 2022. His resurgence from a sub 100 wRC+ to a 140-155 wRC+ hitter in his 30s is crazy.

Can’t believe we have two PED users on the same team.
