GDT--5/25-- FRIDAY AT Red Sox

Xander would be a consistent star if he'd just pick a side of what to do at the plate. He's flipped back and forth from being all the way for contact and with power added for his whole career.

Technicalllllllly... no. But 23-18 is close enough, right?

Nick had a fantastic career. But try tossing that name as a comp on a top prospect and see how much excitement that generates.

Neck has been an avg player the majority of his career.

Wasnt he a consensus number one overall prospect? I would think his projections would have been a bit more aspirational.

I flibbed when I used the word “disappointment”. Those players aren’t disappointments. More like a bunch of singles and doubles, and no homeruns.
Sometimes high floor guys get high rankings. Our Swanson is one of those.

Putting a Nick Markakis comp on someone around here is almost fighting words for whatever reason.

It has the flavor of 1-2 WAR seasons with little power and none of the flavor of his early years with the O's. If Nick had kept putting up 4-6 win seasons, I don't think that would be a disappointing comp at all. Just depends on how you mean it.

20-20 with good contact and OBP skills is extremely good, I think. Though if the homers continue to be up it is less so.

Early career Markakis had some nice seasons and then for some reason never took a step forward from that. I think people should be saying "early career Markakis" if you're going to use him as a comp.

(He's having a flashback kind of season to that right now)

Nick is a career 28.0 fWAR in 12.33 seasons. That's ~2.3 fWAR per season. Not great, but solid

All things considered that's great even for a 7th overall pick and someone that topped out at 21 on a top 100 list. Very few players make it to star status.

What bugs me is the guys who play great but are still ragged on because they didn't live up to a crazy amount of hype.
