GDT 5/27 Strider and the Backup Catcher: LFG Time

I’m not excusing him. I’m telling you firing him will change nothing. They’ll just promote Weiss and it will be the same old dead team. Maybe fire the entire staff and see what happens
Firing guys can change things. Phillies were a .486 team under girardi, but they've shot up to .580s by firing Joe.

Serenity now. Serenity now. The braves were 3 games under .500 on august 1st in 2021. Serenity now. Breathe deeply, msstate7. Just breathe.
I think 2022 is what you should be looking at. That team was 4 games under .500 and 11 games back on June 1 and ended up overtaking a 100 win team to win the division.

That 2021 team gets propped up because of the ending, and they were a good team, but they benefited from a weak division. That team doesn’t even make the playoffs in 2019, 2022 or 2024.

Not saying this team will go scorched Earth like 2022 after May, because that doesn’t look realistic at all right now, but that’s the hope of Braves’ past that you should be clinging to.

good point. Isn't June Riley's month? Hopefully we stop running into every team's best starters soon, and they get hot offensively

That's all well and good, but I feel like that 23-27 start in 2022 was mostly our pitching sucking. There was some stagnant offense here and there, but it did not begin to approach this level of awfulness. I also don't think those slow-starting teams were this fundamentally unintelligent. We're not hitting home runs consistently, and even though we had a guy on base each of the first eight innings tonight, we had only two at bats with RISP. And that's with faster guys being on base. We're not doing anything to press the issue. Completely lifeless.

If we get swept by Philly it's gonna be a gut check time to where AA may be forced to do something. I'm not sure what that something is besides demoting Harris or firing Snit but this team is as flat as I've ever seen it. It's carried over from last year and I see no end in sight going like this.

This offense continues to be a mystery. It feels like these hitters are constantly getting outsmarted, and are always one step behind the opposing pitcher. They are beaten by average fastballs that should be punished, which implies they are staying back for the offspeed stuff...but then they are still fooled by those!
I've been saying this since 2023: This is a low IQ team with a low IQ manager and coaching staff. They will often get outsmarted by the opposition. The physical talent to make hard contact is still there (though declining), but that isn't much use if they constantly guess wrong on pitch location and type. 2023 happened largely because of a party trick called "the ambush", but opposing teams figured out how to deal with it, and the Braves have been unable to respond.

That makes no sense. This team is taking more in zone pitches than ever. Also taking more meatballs than ever. If they would just continue the ambush party trick they would probably be great again. Instead they are taking more pitches but chasing the same.

Realistically, three games under .500 isn't that big of a deficit. But this offense is underperforming at unbelievable levels and I don't trust it to get going again without the Braves making legitimate changes.

Here's some realism for the board. Braves team OPS:

2016 (68-93): .705
2017 (72-90): .738
2025: .705

The pitching likely keeps the team afloat for a while, but they either figure out the hitting woes soon (which feels unlikely) or heads need to roll. That's the truth.
