GDT 5/27 Strider and the Backup Catcher: LFG Time

Last June...
Riley 151 wrc+
Ozuna 143 wrc+
Olson 107 wrc+ (not great, not horrible)
Murphy 107 wrc+

Schedule be damn, I think this group is about to hit, along with Acuna, and the braves are about to win some games

Will be nobody happier than Snit, as it will get the heat off of him so he doesn't have to actually manage when we're outscoring everyone in big margins.

I do think the team goes on a hot streak. Strider was a little shaky last night but still did a really good job and should get better the more reps he gets. Hopefully Profar can come back and help some and Kimbrel should be up soon.

ManBun is a shell of his former shelf.. anyone thinking he is going to be a high leverage guy is probably going to be disappointed.. Just like people expected Strider to just magically return and be the ace we all loved. Why AA not addressing the pitching situation this offseason is a huge FAIL.

This offense continues to be a mystery. It feels like these hitters are constantly getting outsmarted, and are always one step behind the opposing pitcher. They are beaten by average fastballs that should be punished, which implies they are staying back for the offspeed stuff...but then they are still fooled by those!
I've been saying this since 2023: This is a low IQ team with a low IQ manager and coaching staff. They will often get outsmarted by the opposition. The physical talent to make hard contact is still there (though declining), but that isn't much use if they constantly guess wrong on pitch location and type. 2023 happened largely because of a party trick called "the ambush", but opposing teams figured out how to deal with it, and the Braves have been unable to respond.
People who say things like this are pretending that mostly this same group of hitters wasn’t an offensive juggernaut from 2019-2022 also.

That makes no sense. This team is taking more in zone pitches than ever. Also taking more meatballs than ever. If they would just continue the ambush party trick they would probably be great again. Instead they are taking more pitches but chasing the same.
My point is this: they had an approach in 2023 that was effective but simplistic (look for fastball early in the count, annihilate it, Score early before the pitcher settles in). That stopped working in 2024 (or arguably the 2023 playoffs), as more and more teams caught on to what the Phillies did to counter it. Since then, they’ve been trying to find another strategy that works, with little success so far.

I think there are sone signs that they are trying a more patient approach, but it takes time to develop those skills and unlearn bad habits. At this stage, it sometimes feels like they’re being patient just for the sake of it, while at other times they’re falling back into old habits and expanding their zone.

Those people are effed in the head. They truly are- and it’s self propagating - they are rude so people hate them- and they hate being hated so they act worse. And it never ends. “City of brotherly love?” My ass. They have an “eff the world” attitude and are just miserable. From throwing batteries at Chipper to throwing snowballs at Santa. Screw them.
