GDT 5/9/21: Philthies vs Braves - Acuña in the lineup

Here are the tweets that are being referred to. For whatever reason, he seems like the type of guy to just name random sources without having any actual info. So I wouldn't buy into this.

To embed tweets you take the tweet number so 1390758346140098564 and 1391200634238537729 and put them between [ TW ] [ /TW ] tags without the spaces in there.

I can assure you I am NOT Bill Shanks, and it was on his twitter feed. I did say take it with a grain of salt.

I'll believe it...for now.

Sorry but many on here used to be on the Braves scout.com board before it was taken down and Bill used to be the admin there. Needless to say not many here are not fond of how he ran it or much of anything he has to say.

Freeman may be unhappy, but it isn't affecting his production. Of the 179 MLB players with 100+ PAs in 2021, Freeman ranks 12th in xwOBA at .404.

FG just did an article about BABIP outliers, and obviously Freeman made the list of guys getting hosed by expected production on balls in play: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mike-trout-yasmani-grandal-and-other-early-babip-outliers/

So....Bill Shanks is still an insufferable moron nobody should ever pay any attention, and Freddie Freeman is still an elite hitter being held down by a horrid .193 BABIP that is guaranteed to go up. And it's still a bad idea to give him Goldy money. While I would love to see him extended for 2-3 more years, I completely understand him not willing to settle for that when a team like the Angels will pay him 2x the money an intelligent team would.

Are we even sure the Angels would pay him that much money now though? They just hired AA's #2 guy as their GM, so I think they're trending in the direction of being smart now. I think Freddie might be pretty disappointed with the offers if he hits the open market.

I don't know if Shanks is still plugged in, but he used to be very plugged in (mostly with the minor league and player development guys) so I wouldn't just dismiss his tweets out-of-hand.

I doubt he gets 5 year offers. Teams are going to roll the dice they can likely get a lot of production from 1B without a long term commitment
